The Setup

The Mustangs (2-9-0, eliminated from playoffs) come into this matchup looking to finally slay their white whale—quite literally. The Whalers (7-4-0, 2nd place) have absolutely owned this series, boasting a **6-0** record all-time against the Mustangs. That’s right, the Mustangs have *never* beaten the Whalers, and with just a handful of games left in the season, this might be their last chance to change that before packing up their gear for the summer.

The History

To say this has been a one-sided affair would be an understatement. The Whalers have found every possible way to beat the Mustangs over the years—run-and-gun shootouts, defensive grinds, and even the occasional goalie duel. Most recently, on January 8th, the Whalers dismantled the Mustangs 5-1, continuing their dominance. The closest the Mustangs have come to victory was a heartbreaking 1-0 loss back in December, proving they can keep it close—but just can’t get over the hump.
