The UVHL Gamblers started their inaugural season with a Whalen Cup victory in 2008-09! Captained by one of the very best hockey players ever in the history of the UVHL, Will Meyer, this squad was led by the speedy and tenacious captain's example and drive to win in their very first season together. Nothing short of incredible... Meyer has one previous Whalen Cup already with the Nords in 2005-06.

The solid goaltending of Jered Condon returns to keep only but a very few pucks out of the Gamblers net, and the MMA line, the UVHL's top line in 2008-09, looks to continue terrorizing opponents with the fearsome Marrazzo-Meyer-Ammel combo. Anchoring the D is Kevin Guilbault alongside the tall, tough, tenacious and underrated tandem of Scott Fraser and Mike Harrington. Jason Young looks to take the most slapshot attempts in the league once again, and the rest of the supporting cast must be excited about a possible repeat. Joining the squad this season are Eric Gattie and Allison "The Force" Malcolm. The Gamblers are the top dogs going in to the 2009-10 season, and proved themselves after starting horribly last fall only to amass an incredible record, first place, and their first Whalen Cup.
