The Nordiques & Cardigan Mountain Men have both had a promising start to the season. The Nords took down the top ranked Gamblers in a stunner during week 1, and then gave away a game to the undefeated Tuck team in week 2. Cardigan sat at 2-0-0 with a thumping of both the reigning Whalen Cup Chamion Whalers and the lowly Dead River Oilers.
This game had "epic" written all over it. With the dynamic Ryan "The Kitchen" Sinclair leading the league in points and assists and the Nordiques offensive juggernaut Jordy "The Breakaway" McGee leading the way offensively. Both goaltenders, Johnny "He threw ONE Temper Tantrum" Turner and Matty "Tazzy" Albertazzi anchor their teams with solid goaltending to provide a foundation for their offense. The wildcard in this game would be the Nordiques defensive pairing of Kelly "Turnover" Park & Shawn "McTurnover" McDermott who were absolutely horrific against Tuck in week 2.
As predicted by Vegas, this game was a 4-4 game heading to a shootout, but Vegas picked Cardigan to come away with the win.
It was a hell of a game, fast paced, clean, with a boat load of talent on the ice.
NDQ 1-0 - Poli "The Nightmare" Nightengale gets a pass from behind the net, throws it on net, 5-hole.
CDG 1-1 - Timmy LeRoy fights off two Nords for the puck on the far boards, whips around and fires a snapper low side just over Turner's pad, caught him napping.
NDQ 2-1 - "Fierce" Pierce Mayhew gets a gorgeous breakaway pass from Tommy "The Minister of Defense" Dakai, goes in and turns Matty "Tazzy" Albertazzi inside out on a forehand to backhand deke.
CDG 2-2 - can't remember
NDQ 3-2 - Kelly "Turnover" Park carries the puck from his own end, at a remarkably slow speed, drops the puck to Jordy "McNasty" McGee at the blueline. Park rides the defenseman to the net and McGee follows, eventually using the screen and beating Albertazzi high glove.
CDG 3-3 - Shawn "McTurnover" McDermott coughs up the pass to Ryan "The Cherrypicker" Sinclair, who played less than 42 seconds on defense all night. Sinclair then cuts back on Park at the hashmarks, cuts laterally and beats Turner with a snapper off his glove and in.
CDG 4-3Sinclair was on the far boards and made a great pass to Owen "Carpe Diem" Carpino in the slot all alone. Carpino took a few steps and beat Turner blocker side for his 9th goal of the young season.
NDQ 4-4 - Jason "The Afghan" Harootunian whistles a puck high and right on Albertazzi as he broke into the zone with speed. Pics up his own rebound on the other side of the net and puts it past Tazzy for the tie.
