ODDS: | Storm Kings by 2 goals |
OVER/UNDER: | 10 goals |
I don't see good things from the Nordiques in the near future. After summing up a paltry and embarrassing 16 shots against the Gamblers and losing 5-1. The Storm Kings on the other hand are explosive and dynamic and just really good.
The Kingers are powered by Ryan "Everything but the Kitchen" Sinclair & "Whiny" Tim Leroy who have been excellent. Their roster is always a mystery as well as their goaltending. They are made up of a bunch of high-maintenance prima donnas who can't show up to a men's league game unless it is is an 8:05 game, the temperature is between 35 and 80 degrees & there are at least 10 fans. In other words, you really never know who the hell is going to show up. In net, Danny "Sir Fussalot" French has been inconsistent, letting in some bad ones while making some amazing stops.
The Nordiques are a sinking ship, but can be saved. First they need to get McDermott off before it's too late, he just weighs too much, nothing against his play. Their backbone has cracked......literally, Johnny "Temper Tantrum" Turner has gone OFF the reservation and will be sitting on his ass for 30 days.....suspended. You know what happened. J-Rod "Stat Sheet" Condon of the Gamblers will be filling in, and should give them a chance in this one.
Regardless, I can't give the lowly Nordiques the nod, they are just too inconsistent.
6-4 Storm Kings
Nordiques vs. Storm Kings
It was doom & gloom from the start for the Nordiques who have been struggling as their defenseman, Kelly "Captain Turnover" Park made a horrible pass in the first minute that was picked off at his own blue line and turned into a goal. That one goal was all they Storm Kings needed in their 3-0 man-handling of the Nordiques. The Nordiques mustered 21 shots on Danny French "Toast", but only a handful were quality scoring chances. Not to say that French wasn't spectacular when called upon, but as a team the Storm Kings controlled all 3 zones. At the other end of the net, J-Red "Dirty" Condon, filling in for a suspended Johnny "Temper Tantrum" Turner, was much busier as he turned away 26 high quality shots and letting in 3.
As mentioned before, Park turned the puck over to UVM alumni Rob Pattison, who broke across the blue line in the first minute before finding "Mean" Dean Cashman at the backdoor. Cashman beat out the Pear Shaped Loser Shawn "McChunkaLunk" McDermott, before redirecting the puck perfectly inside the post with no room to spare and 49 ticks off the clock. Both teams played excellent defensive games, if you can keep your opponent to 3 goals or under in a Men's League game you're doing something right. But the Storm Kings' defense was dominant, stifling the Nord's offense at their own blue line & out-hustling, out-muscling & out-smarting them in their own end. Dan French was called upon early to make some saves as Park hit Roger "The Dentist Drill" with a 120 foot pass sending him in all alone. Frenchy came out aggressively forcing Phillips to shoot high and wide.
The Second period was back and forth with the Storm Kings outshooting the Nords again. They finally capitalized late in the period when another Nordiques defenseman mishap led to a goal. The puck was moved back to Andy "Pooch" Puchilak on the far boards. The Storm Kings were clogging up the neutral zone forcing him back into the zone, where he got tangled up with the boards. I believe it was Patty "Tug" Turcotte who picked his pocket and fired a quick pass to Marty "Gandolf The Grey" White who was heading to the net. Condon came out aggressively and poke checked the pass into the gut of White and the two headed to the back boards. White turned quickly and found Mike "Hot Fuzz" Fitzgerald in the high slot. Condon, for some reason, was doing snow angels on the ice but flipped over quickly getting a piece of Fitzgerald's wrister before it tipped up and into the net with 5:26 to play. The Kingers continued to stymie the Nordiques offense the remainder of the period
White put the Kingers up 3-0 with 11:47 to go in the 3rd as Turcotte turned the net and Condon over committed to a non-existent wrap around attempt. Turcotte patiently out-waited the Nord's and found White all alone in the slot where he quickly fired a wrister up and over the downed Condon who was doing snow angels yet again. Any chance of a comeback was dashed with 3 Nordiques penalties late in the 3rd, including a pair with less than 5 minutes to play. The Nordiques aptly killed off the 5 man advantage but were left exhausted with 1:44 to play and NO OFFENSIVE PUNCH to be found.

Hey "Stat Sheet", I will definitely score tonight. I can't promise that I'll actually play any defense in front of you, because frankly I want you to see 95 shots and let in 30 goals so that you will be exhausted for your late game, ultimately being responsible for ending the Gambler's 5 game winning streak.

| Excellent game, Kingers. Dec 11th, 2008 10:16 AM
Tuesday night's tilt against the Kingers was a great hockey game. They scored one goal per period, and Frenchy played great. It was good hockey, and nobody bitched or complained. That is what the UVHL is all about, and it was awesome to see a game like that from the Kings, and it was fun to play in win or lose. Nice win, Kings. Congrats, eh. - McD | | | | | |
