Nordiques destroy light Smoke Eaters squad on 4/27.

Sometimes you need your horses to show up to compete. The Smoke Eaters were light on players and not all that deep on talent this night and the Nords made them pay for it even though both squads only had 9 skaters each. Nords forward Marcus Ericsson made it into his third game and qualified for the playoffs with a superb performance and one of the best UVHL games by a player all year. The Super Swede started by scoring first at 8:05 from Kelly Park and Shawn McDermott, and then scored 9 seconds later at 7:56 after his centerman Park fed him again. SE defenseman Tom Scull went to the box at 2:03 for high sticking, and then it was Park's turn for a goal on the PP as linemates Ericsson and Greg Marsh played tic-tac-toe inside the offensive zone at 1:40. Marshy scored with 0:15 left in the first from, guess who, Ericsson and Park to end the period 4-0 in favor of the Nords. The Smoke Eaters answered with two consecutive goals in the second. Andy Weber put the Eaters on the board at 13:47 from Scull and Murphy. Scull and Cashman then set up Nick O'Brien for a goal at 12:07 to make it 4-2, but the Nords settled down and didn't let the momentun shift for good. over 10 minutes of scoreless hockey and back and forth action ensued, but the Nords found the net at 1:13 when Tom Dakai stepped in from the point burying one past the acrobatic BJ Premore off of passes from D partner Doug Troy and winger Greg Hadley. Unfortunately for the Storm Kings/Smoke Eaters, Dan French has been sidelined with a knee injury that will keep him out of the net for the remainder of the season. Luckily BJ Premore answered the call-up and he kept many pucks out of the net with his Hasek-esque acrobatic efforts in net. He stoned McDermott on two breakaways and a one-timer as McD moved up to forward halfway through the first to allow Drew Crapser to play D, and Greg Hadley kept finding McD with beautiful passes that Fat Bastard couldn't convert, though not for lack of effort. Nice job, Beej! In the third the park-Ericsson-Marsh line continued its dominance with Park scoring at 14:38 with both linemates garnering the assists, whereas the Ammel-Hadley-McDermott line scored its only goal of the game at 12:00 on Ammel's marker in front off a nice feed from behind the net by McDermott. Dean Cashman answered for the Eaters at 11:15 from Scull and Weber. Drew Crapser got the monkey off his back with an absolute ripper from the point that found its way through Premore at 10:08 from Park. Nords D Dakai scored his second of the game on the PP with Murf in the box for holding at 7:00 as Ericsson and Park fed him at the point at 6:37 for the PPG. Tom Scull continued his strong game and was the best player for the Smoke Eaters in a losing cause, and he got his fourth point of the night on four Eaters goals when he scored one of his own at 4:23 unassisted. Park went to the box at 4:03 for holding, and then we had some 4-on-4 after Premore got nabbed for a trip at 3:20, but no goals were scored on the special teams. Greg Marsh finished off the scoring at 0:48 from, you're not going to believe this, Ericsson and Park. Cashman went to the sin bin for hooking with only 0:27 left, but the score ended the same.
