The Lumberjacks have easily managed the Whalers this year, winning both contests; 5-3 and 5-2. The last matchup on December 13th saw the McPotato line of Jordy "McMuffin" McGee, Neil "Big Mac" MacKenzie and Patrick "McRib" McDonough put up 4 goals and 9 points in the 5-2 win. The McPotato line celebrated with a late night drive-thru of McDonald's in West Leb, and spent the next 24 hours on the toilet.
Some other guys from the Jacks also played, but nobody really knows who they are, and they really only did a couple laps out there taking up space. Their goaltender Ryan "The Liberator" Libbey, made 33 saves for the win and was solid in the net despite being listed as 6-0 and only weighing 82 lbs. The least the McPotato line could have done was take Libbey out to Mickey D's after the game.
Since that heartbreaking loss, the Whalers haven't won a game, but to be fair, it's only been 2 games...and they haven't won one yet this season. The Whaler's dismal defense is only outmatched by their dismal offense. Their league worst 2.0 Goals Per Game is embarrassing considering the next worst is the Gamblers at 4.5 GPG. They also have a league worst 5.4 Goals Allowed Per Game, which is slightly worse than Tuck's 5.17 and the Lumberjacks 5.0 GAPG.
The Whaler's Nate "The Ok" Robinson has slipped to second on the team with 5 points, and I just wanted to point that out because when he was leading the team three games ago, he made sure to point that out, now he's pointless in his last 3. Shame on you Robinson. Shame. Chris "Inception" Inserra now leads the team with 6 points.
The Jacks have 3 players in the top 20 in scoring. McGee leads the league with 21pts, #4 is McDonough with 17pts and Jay "The Zamboni" Zanleoni cleans up the ice at #11 with 11 points.
This should be a fun one. Vegas says the Jacks still win by 2. Over Under is 8.5 Goals.
Miracle on Ice....Whalers Finally Win!!!
Do you believe in Miracles?!?!? Seriously...like sea-splitting miracles? If so, then you know there was divine intervention tonight when the UVHL Whalers avoided going 0-9-1 on the season with a 4-3 upset of the Lumberjacks. A Grade-A Miracle.
The Jacks had easily handled the Whalers in their previous two games, but the Whalers made some roster moves, sending Captain/Manager Kelly "The Mouth" Park and starting goaltender Tucker "Big Sexy" Garrity-Hanchett to the minors. That message clearly sparked something in the Whalers who played an excellent game in front of alternate-goaltender Luke "McNuke" McCormick who had 30 saves in the win. The Lumberjack's Ryan "The Liberator" Libbey had 24 saves in the loss, but did come up big on a pair of breakaways to keep his team in it.
It seemed as though the Lumberjacks were a bit lost without their Captain Jay "The Zamboni" Zanleoni who was home preparing for the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Championship in July. Zanleoni performs under the name "DogZilla", you can buy t-shirts and other merchandise at www.JayEatsDogs.com.
A big night for the Whaler's Chris "The Piss" Inserra who had a pair of goals and helper in the win. His game winner with 4:37 to play was a great rush, turning Libbey inside out like a pretzel.
The Lumberjack's Jordy "McToeDrag" McGee was his usual self, putting up a trio of points on a goal and two apples, but couldn't replicate the 7 point night he had last week against Tuck. The Whalers did a good job of keeping McDangles to the outside for most of the night, and his fellow Potato Loving linemates, Pat "McNuggets" McDonough and Neil "Big Mac" MacKenzie were quite.
Overall another fantastic game between the bottom two teams in the UVHL.
