ODDS: | Nords by 1 |
OVER/UNDER: | 5 |
In the other first round game we have the 4th seed Ramuntos hosting the 5th seed Nordiques. Ramuntos finished the year with a 11-9 and as of lately have been playing great team hockey. Nordiques finished with a 7-11-2 and have not been playing there best hockey coming into the playoffs. Ramuntos took the season series 3-1, both teams are very strong when they are playing their best hockey and looks for tonight's game to be a close one. This game will be close until late in the 3rd when Nords will come out on top winning this game 3-2.
In the second quarterfinal game of the night we had the 4th seed Ramuntos hosting the 5th seed Nordiques. This game was predicted to be very close as both teams when playing well are very good. that is exactly what happened as both teams had two lines and were ready to leave it all on the ice. Both teams exchanged chances early but it was Ramuntos who would get on the board first when Jason Mikula let a twisted wrister go from the slot that would beat JT with 10:16 remaining in the period. This would end up being the only goal of the period but there were plenty of chances on each side. Matt Albertazzi of Ramuntos would finish the period with 11 saves and JT of the Nordiques would finish with 8 saves.
In the second period the Nordiques came out just as hungry as they did in the first and looking to tie the game. It only took a 80 seconds into the second for the Nordiques Jamie Solon to get his team on the scoreboard as he broke into the Whalers zone and let a hard wrist shot fly past Albertazzi glove, hit the post and then in. Shortly after tying the game Ramuntos took a penalty giving the Nords a chance to gain control of this game and grabbing the lead. However on that insuming power play it was Ramuntos Jason Rasco who scored a beauty shorthanded goal as he let a shot fly high that went bar down to put Ramuntos up 2-1. However just 20 seconds later the Nords were able to tie the game on their power play as Greg Marsh was alone in the slot, let a shot fly which Albertazzi saved however the rebound bounced back on Marsh"s stick and he fired it home to tie the score at 2 with 8:27 left in the period. With the score tied both teams had chances for the remaining 8 minutes but it was the Nordiques Roger Phillips that would break the tie with just 7 seconds left in the period. The period would end with the Nords up 3-2 as JT finished the period with 6 saves and Albertazzi with 12.
In the third period both teams came out very aggressive as they both knew that the next goal was critical. Both teams would have scoring chances early but neither could get the puck past their opponent"s goalies. The Nordiques then took a penalty with 11:22 remaining in the period however JT and the gang were up for killing it off. Shortly their after Ramuntos took a penalty with 8:11 remaining in the period and just like the Nords Ramuntos was able to kill it off as well. With the Nords still up 3-2 and both goalies playing well you would think the games next goal was going to come off hard work. Well think again as Ramuntos Trevor Billings stopped a Nordiques past to center ice, corralled it, and then let a hard slapper go from outside the Nords blue line as his teammates tagged up. As Trevor let the slapper go the Nordiques defensemen skated in front of JT and this allowed for the puck to get past JT as he couldn"t see it. Billings"s goal came with just 2:59 left in the period and fired his team up as they never stopped believing. The third period would end with the score 3-3 as JT finished the period with 12 saves (a three period total of 26) and Albertazzi had 11 saves (a three period total of 34).
With the game being tied it meant we played a 5 minute 4 on 4 overtime period until we have winner. As the overtime period started both teams were willing to do whatever it takes to get an odd man rush on the other team and hopefully scoring the game winning goal. The overtime period was back and forth but with just 23 seconds left Jamie Solon pinched at the blue line to win the puck battle, he skated in 1 on 1 with the defense who he ended up beating and then skated in on Tazzi and deked back hand and tuck it past Tazzi on his forehand to win the game! With the win the Nordiques will now face the 1st seed Lumberjacks in the other semifinal"s game.

Great pre-game Will. I think that the long road trip for Ramuntos will wear on them and they won't be focused. |
