Nordiques
ODDS: | Nordiques by 2 Goals |
OVER/UNDER: | 8 Goals |
The Nordiques have scored the fewest goals in the UVHL this season(7), granted they've also played the fewest number of games(3). They were shutout by Tuck, 9-0, and lost last week 6-1 to the Gamblers but did start the season off with a 6-3 win over the Whalers in week 1.
The Dead Riverians, who are expected to don new jerseys and a new name at some point this season, are winless in 4 games have only scored 8 goals while allowing 30. Leading the way for Dead River is TJ "The Menace" Moran who has factored into 7 of Dead River's 8 goals this season. Sniping 3 goals in the meantime. Keith "Bubba" Lazarczyk has also notched 3 goals and an assist. That dynamic duo has 75% of their teams goals, so the Nordiques will have to keep an eye on them. Only one other player, Patrick Keeley, has more than 1 point with two assists on the season.
The Nordiques don't have any standouts offensively, but in only 3 games they have 4 players with 2 points.
The Nordiques have a bit of an advantage in net with John "Showtime" Turner posting a gaudy 6.00 GAA over Matty "Tazzy" Albertazzi's 7.50 GAA. Tazzy has had the unfortunate task of playing Tuck twice and the Gamblers once this season while Turner has only faced each team once.
On paper the Nordiques look like the better team, but their offense has been anemic and their defense atrocious at times this young season. Vegas says Nordiques win 5-3.
Nordiques Survive Winless Dead River, 3-2
Dead River came into tonight's action with an 0-4-0 record and didn't manage to get their first win against the 1-2-0 Nordiques. It was a low scoring affair where both goaltenders came up with huge saves.
The Nordiques jumped out to a 3-0 lead on a pair of goals by Jordy "McBreakaway" McGee only to see Dead River battle back to within a goal but it was too little too late.
Despite being outshot 37-30, Dead River was hungrier than the Nordiques as they had a bit more energy, forechecked harder, battled harder and worked harder than their counterparts. They fought hard and earned the respect of the Nordiques, but respect doesn't get you into the win column.
GAME NOTES:
NOTE: Due to inclement weather the game was delayed 15 minutes because Dead River wasn't ready. The first period was only 10 minutes long.
NOTE: Dead River was all hustle and wanted it more than the Nordiques early
NDQ 1-0 : Phillips gets the first goal 7 minutes into the second period on a pass from Krivitzky
NDQ 2-0 : Jordy on his 4th breakaway, off crossbar and in
NDQ 3-0 : Jordy, Short handed gets a pass from Pierce above the circles, turns and fires a half slapper off the near post and in.
DR 3-1 : Schaft keeps the puck in up high moves it to Pierce at the hashmarks along the boards who then feeds it to Bubba going to the net. Bubba WHIFFS and the puck goes about 7 MPH along the ice under Turner.
DR 4-1 : Loren "The Leper" Lunt carries the puck down the far boards, cuts back and finds Bubba following him. Bubba one-times the pass, flutter puck...or as the Mighty Ducks called it in D3, knuckle pucked it past Turner who was screened by Kelly "Defensive Liability" Park.
NOTE: DR had a power play to end the game and pressured pretty well, but didn't manage to tie the game.
NOTE: Tazzy was amazing in the first 20 minutes as he stopped McGee on 3 breakaways and robbed the Nords on 3 or 4 other shots.
