UVHL: Rivalry Tuesday - Whalers vs Nordiques
ODDS: | Nordiques By 1 Goal |
OVER/UNDER: | 9 Goals |
Always a classic battle, the Nordiques & Whalers always boils down to a good game. After dropping the first game of the season long series, 5-3, the Nordiques have won the last two 8-4 and 6-2.
The Whalers possess the league leader in points, "Jumbo" Joe Gaudet(55 points in 14 GP). The Nordiques kept Gaudet to 1 goal in their last meeting, but odds are that they will NOT reproduce those results this week. They also possess 4 of the top 10 point producers in Gaudet, Woody Redpath(39pts), Scotty "Sugar" Shaw(38pts) and Jay "Zamboni" Zanleoni(33pts). Add to the mix Dillon Pierce(22pts) and rookie Dan "McMagic" McGee(4 points in 2 GP), they are the best offensive team in the region. They lead the league with a staggering 110 goals in 19 games, but their shortfall is defense & goaltending where they've allowed 119 goals, second most in the UVHL this season.
The Nordiques are a team in disarray as they've lost 3 of their last 4 and escaped an embarrassing loss with a 4-2 win(including an empty netter) against the lowly Dead Riverians who are 1-18-0 this season.
The Nordiques have only scored 80 goals while allowing 73 in the process. Their best players have been their goaltender Johnny "Temper Tantrum" Turner who tried to break his stick after a rough loss to Cardigan a couple weeks ago but wasn't strong enough to do so and Jordy "McBreakaway" McGee. McGee's 32 points lead his team, but the Nords will need a little bit more from him.
The Nordique's defensive game has been a mess since their blue-line star, Tommy "The Minister of Defense" Dakai went down with an injury because he was stupid enough to play in the "B" league. Dakai's return helped solidify the Nordiques last week, but now they need to get their offense going again.
The bottom line, these are two of the lower-tiered teams this season and it is a crap-shoot as to who will walk out with the victory. It is completely dependent upon what players show up. That being said, Vegas has this one in the books as a 5-4 win for the Nordiques.
