Cardigan Owns Dead River

Ahhh, Cardigan and Dead River, this should be interesting. Dead River was Cardigan's whipping boy the first two games of the season only to have an extremely close 6-5 game on January 8th.

Cardigan's Owen Carpino has been a stud, notching a ridiculous 37 goals in 13 games this season and 32%(12) of those goals have come against Dead River in 3 games.

Cardigan's 7 players in the top 30 of scoring looks pretty impressive considering that Dead River doesn't have a single player in the top 30. Dead River has a league worst 43 goals scored this season to Cardigan's 93. Cardigan has allowed 88 goals to Dead River's, league-worst, 123.

It's definitely a bit of a mis-match, but Dead River played them to a 6-5 loss 5 weeks ago. Was it a fluke...yup.

Cardigan Rolls Dead River, 6-1

Cardigan improved to 9-6-1-1 and Dead River fell to 1-16-0-0 in a dominant win for the Cardiganians. The usual suspects contributed offensively for the C-Men as Owen Carpino threw a trio of goals past Dead River's Matty "The Eagle" Crowson and Ryan "The Kitchen Sink" Sinclair contributed four assists on the night. Sinclair is on a record setting pace, averaging over 4 PPG in just 6 games this season. Suffering a major knee injury after just 4 games to start the season he's added 11 points since coming back. Carpino added to his league lead in goals by netting his 38th, 39th & 40th goals in just 14 games this season, a torrid pace that has never been matched in UVHL history.

Cardigan also got a solid start from their Goaltender, Matty Albertazzi who stopped 25 of 26 on the night and was rewarded with his 9th win of the year.

When asked about the game, Dead River's Matty Crowson said "We kept it close for the first period (It was 1-0 late into the first period), buckled in the second period, but then held them at bay for the third period. Cardigan went 110% for the entire game, including taking clappers from 5 ft in front of the net with 5 minutes left in the game. We had a good showing from our Swiss forward, and our other new guy. Cardigan had usual characters playing well."

Dead River's Kyle "The Sherpa" Koetsier scored their lone goal mid-way through the second period shortly after Cardigan had gone up 4-0. Cardigan's first four goals came from Carpino, Tad Skelley(who contributed with this goal and two helpers), Carpino and Chris Warrington. Carpino and Sophie LeClerc closed out scoring in the second frame and Sinclair re-injured that knee late in the period...sending him to the showers.

Without Sinclair and Dead River's commitment to defense in the third period there were no goals scored. Both Tazzy & Crowson shut the door.
