Nordiques @ Whalers
ODDS: | Whalers By 1 Goal |
OVER/UNDER: | 9 Goals |
The Nordiques(8-6-0) and Whalers(6-7-0-1) have split their season series 1 game apiece thus far. The Whalers took the first game 5-3 behind a hat trick from Joe Gaudet and 30 saves from kenny Lallier. The Nordiques took game 2 by a score of 6-2, but the Whalers were without Gaudet and Woody Redpath.
Tonight the Nordiques will be without Jordy McGee, their leading offensive threat which titls the ice in the Whaler's favor.
The Nordiques play within a defense first system supported by the excellent goaltending of Johnny "Temper Tantrum" Turner but if the Whalers have their top line of Gaudet, Redpath & Scotty "Sugar" Shaw the Nordiques will be hard pressed to keep pace offensively.
Turner will need to be fantastic tonight to keep his team in it and the Nordiques will have to put as many shots as humanly possible on Kenny "La Petite Gran" Lallier.
Whalers pull this one out 5-4.
Nordiques Double Up Whalers 8-4
The Nordiques have taken two of three against the Whalers this season with an 8-4 win. It was a game that featured 91 shots and 79 saves, 13 players registering a point and 10 of those players registering more than one point.
The game had a feverish pace, especially to start, with both goaltenders making huge saves early on but a 4 goal second period was too much for the Whalers as they succumbed to the well balanced attack of the Nordiques.
The Whalers are having major roster issues as of late and could only muster 8 skaters, bringing in an alternate to help out their bench. Unfortunately for the Whalers they were missing 3 of their top offensive players in Scotty "Sugar" Shaw, Woody Redpath & Jay "The Zamboni" Zanleoni. The loss of those 3 was a significant disadvantage for the Whalers and surely affected the outcome of the game. That being said, the Whalers still have the best player in the UVHL, "Jumbo" Joe Gaudet, who had posted 44 points in 11 games heading into tonight's action.
The Nordiques were also shorthanded with only skaters tonight missing defensive stalwart Tommy "Big Tom Stud" Dakai, Jason Harootunian and Poli "The Nightmare" Nightengale
The Nordiques did a great job of keeping Gaudet to the perimeter and letting their goaltender Johnny "Temper Tantrum" Turner make the saves. Gaudet was limited to just a goal tonight but did breakthrough early on Turner with a beaut of a goal after a Nordique turnover in the neutral zone. The turnover saw Jumbo Joe break into the Nord's zone 2 on 2, he put a quick inside outside move on the Nordique's Reed Hersey and quickly fired a snapper far side high on Turner just under the crossbar.
The Noridques doubled up the Whalers in all three periods using 6 different goal scorers on the night. Eric "The Kriv" Krivitzky and Brian "Mountain Child" Racicot both chipped in two while Kelly "The Mouth" Park, Reid "Chocolate Syrup" Hersey, Roger "The Dirty Dentist" Phillips & Greg "The Butcher of Guelph" Marsh all contributed one goal. The Whalers used 4 different goal scorers in the effort, "Dirty" Kirty Johnson fired a pointshot through a screen, Gaudet scored with his nastiness, Gary "The Pearl Necklace" Laperle had one bounce off his ass and in and Dillon "Pumpkin" Pierce quickly converted a Nordique turnover into a 5-holio goal on Turner late in the game.
The Nordique's took home all three players of the week nominations behind Marsh's best game of the year(1g, 3a), Phillip's 1g & 3a and Racicot's pair plus a helper.
This is a much closer game with the missing Whaler's players, but the Nordiques also played a pretty tight game. We can hope for a full roster from both sides in five weeks.
