Tuckies Beat Nordiques 5-3

Tuck has had the Nordique's number this season and they continued tonight with a solid 5-3 win. Taking the first game 6-4 and the second one 3-2 in the last minute of play, they followed up with a 5-3 win tonight.

Mike "Wine & Dine" Devine was outstanding, stopping 35 of 38 shots en route to the win for Tuck. As usual, Brandon "The Hairy One" Harrington was a force as he scored the game winning goal and added a pair of assists to boot. Tuck used 5 different goal scorers in the contest; Harrington, Mark Devooght, Kevin McCafferty, Peter Mellen & Jeff Wannop.

The Nordiques opened the scoring six minutes into the game on a great pass from Greg "The Butcher" Marsh into the crease where Roger "The Dentist Drill" Phillips was heading full steam. Phillips redirected the pass 5-holio on Devine.

Tuck tied the game up with just under three minutes to play on Jeff "The Wasp" Wannop's 6th goal of the season. Wannop took a turnover at the blueline and fired a blistering wristshot through a screen and 5-holio on the Nordique's Johnny "Temper Tantrum" Turner. Turner never saw it as he didn't even move until the puck clanked off the back of the net. For the record, it may have been because Wannop's shot was moving at negative 8 miles per hour and lulled Turner to sleep.

With two seconds remaining the period Harrington chipped a pass to Peter "Cougar" Mellen at center ice. Mellen toe-dragged Nordique defenseman Kelly "Defensive Liability" Park, and beat Turner with a quick shot 5-hole...making both Nordiques look like pilons in the process.

END OF THE FIRST PERIOD: Tuck 2, Nordiques 1

The Nordique's tied the game early in the second period on a questionable goal that started with a high wrist shot from Park at the point. "Fierce" Pierce Mayhew tipped the shot out of the air somewhere around the height of the crossbar...but it looked higher. The referees called it a good goal despite the objections from Tuck and the game was tied.

Tuck's Kevin McCafferty put Tuck up 3-2 shortly after before Harrington scored on a great individual effort, taking a pass at the Nordique's blue line and bursting down the near boards. Harrington cut to the net and fired a shot that Turner saved, but he was able to chip in his own rebound with a Nordique's defenseman draped all over him.

The Nordiques got back within a goal after Jordy "McBreakaway" McGee took a pass from Mayhew and was stuffed by Devine 2 or 3 times before finally being able to backhand the puck home.

END OF THE SECOND PERIOD: Tuck 4, Nordiques 3

The third period was heavily dominated by the Nordiques as they were pressing to tie the game and Tuck was sitting back protecting theirs. The Nordiques outshot Tuck 16-7 in the period, yet Tuck tallied the only goal late in the period off of a point shot that turned into a couple of rebound saves by Turner that Mark "The Tower of Power" Devooght finally threw home for a little bit of insurance.

Devine continued to come up big in the final minutes to preserve the win.

FINAL: Tuck hangs on through a tough third period to win 5-3. Not a single penalty was registered in a clean, fast paced and fun game.
