Dead River @ Nordiques
ODDS: | Nords By 2 Goals |
OVER/UNDER: | 8 Goals |
Do you believe in MIRACLES? You should, Dead River achieved their LOFTY goal of NOT going 0-23-0 this season with a heart felt 6-3 win over the Whalers last week. On the flip side, and an interesting note, is that Dead River achieved that win with two Nordique Players adding a goal and three helpers.
The Nordiques are coming off one of the lowlights of their season as they were heavily favored against the Brewers and ended up losing 7-4. Adding insult to injury was the loss of their star centerman Jordy "McBroken" McGee who is on the shelf for at least 4 and possibly 12 weeks with a 2nd degree separated shoulder.
Without McGee, the Nordiques offense will struggle, but they should still be able to outscore the 1-6-0 Dead River Squad.
Nordiques win it...5-3.
Dead River Puts Up Fight, But Falls 6-5 to Nordiques
The Dead River Rats were coming off a high after taking down the Whalers last week for their first win of the season and looked to bring that momentum into tonight's game against the Nordiques. They did just that, taking the Nordiques to the brink of devastation before they folded late in the third period.
As usual, the short-benched Dead River squad pulled in some talent from other teams. All three subs that Dead River used contributed heavily with Chris "The Dude" Dubin adding a pair of early goals, Garren "..teed Penalty" Poirier had a goal and two helpers and Jay "The Zamboni" Zanleoni added an assist and solidified Dead River's blue line.
It wasn't much of a goaltenders duel as the two keepers allowed 11 goals on 51 shots, and both had costly turnovers.
The Nordiques got things started with just over a minute into the game when Eric Krivitzky took a pass from Robbie Debevois and fired a quick shot off the crossbar and in. Dubin tied the game at 10:58 after cutting across the blueline and beating the Nordique's Johnny "Temper Tantrum" Turner with a slap shot high glove side from 60 feet out.
Roger "Dr. Clutch" Phillips scored his 9th of the season and first of the night on a purely disgusting move as he sliced his way through Dead River's defense and lighting up Greg "First Period" Feiden with a slick move. Krivitzky added his second of the night with 4:17 to play giving the Nordiques a comfortable 3-1 lead, but Dubin struck again with a nice individual play and quickly followed by Greg "Heavy" Hadley at 2:54 to tie the game.
The Nordiques scored the only goal of the second period when Brian "Paul Bunyon" Racicot feathered a pass from behind the net, under Feiden's stick to Greg "The Butcher of Hanover" Marsh on the back door.
Poirier tied the game early in the third period from Jason Loomis & Jay Zanleoni, before Dr. Clutch(Roger Phillips) made another spectacular play with 10:13 to play to give his team to play.
This is when things got interesting. With the Nordiques on the power play late in the third period, Turner came out of his net to play a puck and fired a lame duck pass up the boards that was picked off by Poirier. Poirier walked in all alone and tried beating Turner with a move, Turner made the save but Loomis cleaned up the rebound for the tying goal.
In what has to be poetic justice, Dead River's Feiden came out of his net with just over four minutes to play, tried firing a puck at the tops of the circles past the Nordique's Douglas "Heavy" Heavisides, only to have Heavy pull it out of the air and deposit it in the empty net for the game winning goal.
Nordiques squeak by in this one 6-5.
