The Brewers are coming in after back to back wins to start the season and hope to continue their hot streak against the 1-1-0 Nordiques. The only problem is that the two teams they have beaten, the Whalers & Dead River, are both winless on the season. The Nordiques started their season with an embarrassing 11-3 loss to the top ranked Gamblers and followed that up with an 11-2 thrashing of an underwhelmingly talented Tuck team.
This is a tough one to call, the Nordiques have historically had a tough time with the Brewers, but the Brewers short bench, and the early season cardio issues could be the factor in this one.
Vegas has it as a 2 goal game, but the Nordiques will roll 3 lines strong and should win 7-3.
Nordiques blemish Brewers Perfect Start with a 4-3 Shootout Win
The Brewers came into week 3 with a 2-0-0 record and left with a slight blemish. They still remain unbeaten through 3 games and played a solid game against the Nordiques, digging out of a deep three goal hole late in the second period.
Both goaltenders were solid with Matty "Taz" Albertozzi stopping 35 shots and 2 of 3 in the shootout, and Johnny "Temper Tantrum" Turner with 28 saves and perfect on all three Brewer's shooters for the win. Turner was sporting brand new white pads...which sparked the old goaltender to the win.
The Brewers came out of the gate flying as they dominated the lowly Nordiques on the first 2 shifts of the game. The Nordiques finally settled down, and despite two power plays for the Nordiques...the two teams battled to a 0-0 tie after 1 frame of hockey.
Early on in the second period, the game looked as if it was going to be a blowout for the Nordiques as they tallied two early goals and added an insurance tally with 3:05 to play. The first goal came just 19 seconds in when Roger "The Dirty Dentist Drill" Phillips took a breakout pass in his own zone, carried it down the near boards, split the defense and then making Albertozzi look like a rookie with a quick move to his backhand for one of the prettiest goals of the season. "Fierce" Pierce Mayhew put the Nords up by two goals just 2:25 later on the powerplay as he cleaned up a Tommy "Gun" Dakai point shot.
Phillips added his second of the night and third of the young season with 3:05 to play and it didn't look like the Brewers would be able to get back into this game. Brock "The Bully" Barton changed that forecast by beating Turner with a hard snapper high glove side just 34 seconds after Phillip's goal, and just over a minute later Garren "...teed Penalty" Poirier, who actually got his FIRST penalty of the season tonight, had the goal of the hear as he picked up the puck coming out of the Nordique's zone, beat a deathly slow Kelly "cement toes" Park wide. Poirier then cut hard at the bottoms of the circles, getting hauled down by Shawn "The Minister of Blue Cheese" McDermott and somehow sliding the puck past Turner far side as he slide through the crease. He promptly got up, shouted some obscenities at Park, fist pumped, dry humped the chilly air and went back to his bench. The bottom line is, it was such a nice goal, Poirier could have ridden his stick like a horse, done the Kayak at center ice, and then burned his stick like ovechkin....
End of the second period: Nordiques 3, Brewers 2
The sudden late surge by the Brewers put the Nordiques on their heels, they were now playing to protect the league, and the Brewers started to pour it on. Aaron "Man" Mancuso tied the game early in the 3rd on a softy that beat Turner as he was traversing the crease(new pads). Not to say it wasn't a great goal by Mancuso with a perfectly placed shot, but it was still one Turner usually saves.
The game went to a shootout with Turner being perfect, turning away Chris Johnson, Bill Fletcher & Chris Dubin. Albertozzi was dangled by Jordy McGee on the first shot for the eventual game winner, then stopped Phillips & Coates to keep things interesting.
YAAAAAHH! I'm on a career-high 2-game point streak, am plus-1 on the season, and I feel lucky tonight!

Good Game Nov 7th, 2011 01:37 PM
I was excited to see how this one turned out (not that cared who won, aside from being right in Pick 'Em). With our opening week loss in a shootout to the Brew Crew and this one going to a shootout, it looks like we have several even teams this year!
