Nordiques Improve to 5-1-1, Stomp Whalers 8-4

The Pre-Turkey day festivities kicked off with another Nordique beat down of the Whalers, this time, the final was 8-4. A new UVHL record may have been set tonight as there were ZERO penalty minutes in this match, but rookie referee Greg Hadley also lost his whistle before the game, but don't worry, he found it under his left man-boob shortly after the buzzer sounded.

It was a great night offensively for the Nordiques WASP line, as they put together 4 goals & 5 assists while the Whalers top line of Jay "the Chin" Zanleoni, Nate "The Great" Aldrich & Scotty "Sugar" Shaw scored all 4 goals and registered EVERY single point for the Whalers.

The Whaler's goaltender Kenny "Cobwebs" Lallier fought off a stroke and a weak bladder to turn away 41 shots en route to the loss. The Nordiques Johnny "Temper Tantrum" Turner wasn't quite as busy, but saw enough rubber shot at him to feel as though he could have unprotected sex that night, stopping 31 of 35 shots on his way to his league leading 5th win of this young season.

Jay "The Chin" Zanleoni played with some vigor for the first time this season netting his first 4th career hat trick. Zanleoni was at his best, and his linemates, Scotty Shaw(2 assists) and Nate Aldrich(1 goal, 1 assist) were the only other two point scorers for the Whalers.

The Nordiques jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of goals from Brian "Red Beard" Racicot only 54 seconds apart. Both goals were assisted by Pierce "Mayhem" Mayhew. Nordiques Defenseman Tommy "Guns" Dakai, made a great rush late in the first period, cutting through center ice and beating 3 Whalers before dishing the puck to Roger "The Dirty, Dusty and Rusty Old Dentist Drill" Phillips in the high slot. Phillips took the pass and immediately fired a quick shot through Lallier's giant and gaping five-holio for Phillip's 7th goal of the season and definitely one that Lallier would like to have back.

Dakai had a hell of a game, both defensively and offensively. Dakai added 3 assists, as well as playing significant time on defense with only 3 d-men for the Nords, garnering himself his first Player Of the Week nomination.

END OF THE FIRST: Nordiques 3, Whalers ZIP

The Nordiques went up 4-0 on a quick breakout that saw Jordan "McBreakaway" McGee feed Mayhew convert his first of two on the night. Zanleoni added his first of three goals off of a faceoff to the right of the Nordique's goal. Zanleoni won the faceoff, pulled the puck to the high slot and let a twisted-wrister fly through a screen, top shelf on Turner.

END OF THE SECOND: Nordiques 4, Whalers 1

Even though the Nordiques had a healthy 4-1 lead, the game felt much closer heading into the third period. The Whalers didn't lay down to die, but still had the same defensive problems as they let up 4 goals in the final frame....but on a high note, they added 3 of their own.

The beginning of the third period was slow, until 6 of the games goals were scored in a 2:32 second span. Mayhew started the scorefest at 9:40 with his second of the night and 10th of the season from linemates McGee & Racicot. Zanleoni struck again 14 seconds later from his linemates Shaw & Aldrich only to see the Nordique's Ian "The Tooth" Coates cut through the Whaler's defense 14 seconds later to put his team back up by 4 goals. Poli "The Nightmare" Nightengale got his 2nd of the season 17 seconds later taking a pass from Coates, headed down the far side and beat Lallier inside the post. Kelly "The Mouth" Park made it 8-2 at 7:08 after intercepting an awful breakout pass up the middle and fired a 37 MPH slapshot at Lallier, that somehow went through the logo in his jersey and into the net. Either a trick shot by Park or a really bad goal by Lallier.

The Nordiques looked confident, up 8-2 with 7 minutes to play, but the offensive burst by the Nordiques just seemed to light a fire under the asses of the Whalers. Zanleoni & Shaw played give and go on the far boards sending Shaw low behind the net and Zanleoni crashing the front. Shaw feathered a pass through a defenseman and onto the stick of Zanleoni who fought off a Nord's center to get the shot off and under the arm of Turner with 5:49 to play. The next shift saw Nate Aldrich redirect a pointshot into the net as he stood to the side of Turner. With 5:08 to play, the scoring was done.

END OF REGULATION: Nordiques 8, Whalers 4

The Whalers fought hard, but need some help in their defensive zone as well as some help scoring goals. They threw caution to the wind and played with some heart in the 3rd, but couldn't balance their offense and defence...scoring 3 goals while giving up 4.

Lallier let up a pair of softies, but also made some huge saves to even it out. Turner came up big at the end of the second period, traversing the crease to shut down a backdoor pass, only to see the Whalers scream that it was a goal, and the refs determine otherwise.

The Whalers are getting better, and aren't a pushover team, but still need some wor
