Brewers on a roll with upset over #1 Gamblers

McKreskin, I tell you! I called this one, too, and then the horseshoe fell out of my ass! I guess I have to be right on one night at least once per season (and this is the first!). It took 2 goalies, a former captain resurrected from the dead, three top players in absentia, and a plethora of Long Trail in the locker room to do it, but the Brewers upset the #1 seeded Gamblers in a battle that saw the game tied 3-3 with only 10:27 to go!

JT had to perform "5 minutes of shutout hockey" to start the game in net for the Brewers with Nick Louras en route from Union Arena. Oops. With Louras back in net the Brewers were still without superstar defenseman Sean McCabe, and scoring threats Christian Isaac and Joe Lyle. Our rinkside reporter noted that there were "no shots yet with 12 minutes left in the first, nothing really going on". By the time Louras made it into the net JT had stopped 2 shots "including a pretty hard wrister by Will Meyer". The first goal was at 9:26 by the Brewers' ageless wonder Al Sorrentino from Nick Bayley and Brock Barton. Then with 4:12 left in the first "an absolute ROCKET" was launched from the blueline by Jason Yehle that was tipped by a defenseman and the goal scored by hookmaster Garren Poirier over Jered Condon's shoulder, and the assists going to Chris Johnson and Yehle. Both penalties were killed off , the first going to Gamblers forward Dan Ammel at 7:16 for hooking, and then to Barton for the same at 0:30. "With 3 minutes to go Condon has 2 SOG with 2 goals scored", but he finished the period with 5 SOG. JT faced 2 shots and Louras faced 9 at the other end for the Brewers.

The second period started 2-0 for the Brewers, and they added to their lead at 10:11 with Bayley scoring on a stickless Condon from, can you believe it hockey fans, Mike Hickey! Hickey was officially resurrected from the dead and taken out of retirement for tonight's game. Last season's Biggest Loser, and former Brewers Captain, made a guest appearance and got a point in his first game back.! Incredible, even for a dead guy who has absolutely no nociception whatsoever! (that is pain sensation for you lay people). The Brewers had the game well in hand (hopefully not Bayley's hands post-game...) with a 3-0 lead and all the momentum. Condon faced 10 shots in the second and Louras 7.

The Gamblers mounted a comeback scoring 3 goals in 2:06 to tie the game at 3 "after playing a very fast-paced sceond period". Meyer scored at 12:33 from Ammel to start it rolling. Then on the PP with CJ in the box for tripping Gamblers D Scott Fraser scored at 11:19 from Ammel. Less than a minute later it was Meyer again from playmakers Ammel, with his 3rd assist in just over 2 minutes, and Matt Marrazzo at 10:27 to shock the Brewers back into reality with the tieing goal and less than a period to play! Matching roughing minors were doled out to Gamblers Royce Lawrence and Brewers Bill Fletcher at 9:10. The GWG came at the hands of none other than Garren Poirier on his second goal of the night with 7:10 to go off a cross-crease pass from Bayley and Sorrentino. Poirier "slammed it home past a sprawling Jered Condon. Awesome goal". The Gamblers started laying some shots on the Brewers netminder late in the game, "almost 6 shots in the last 30 seconds, and the Brewers pull it out" for the HUUUGE one goal upset over the #1 seeded Gamblers. Condon faced 19 shots, and Louras faced 26 in this awesome battle.
