ODDS: | Brew Crew by 1 |
OVER/UNDER: | 7 goals |
This is another classic battle at the Union Arena, as the Brewers(11-8-0) host the lowly Nordiques(9-7-3). The Nordiques are 1-1-1 against the Brewers losing a 4-4 shootout in week 5. The Brewers have a well balanced attack especially if Billy "The Kid" Fletcher, Christian "Wicked Game" Isaac & Nick "The Stick" Bayley are there. Not to mention the cagey veterans Chris "The Ninja Turtle" Johnson & Garren "Tee" Poirier. Their defense will take a hit without Danny "The Chubby Hubby" Charette weighing down the defensive zone due to a fighting major last week.
The Nords finally broke the 5 game skid they were in, when they tried a new pairing for their first line. The line generated 7 of the 10 goals and helped open up room for the next 2 lines. The Nordiques are best when they roll 3 lines, so we'll see what their numbers are tonight.
In net, Johnny "Temper Tantrum" Turner looked like a giant ball of shit last week, giving up a couple of softies in a 10-5 win over the Storm Kings. At the other end, Nick Louras, is the new netminder for the Brewers since Petey Bartline left for his G.L.A.D. cruise to Alaska. Louras wasn't great in his UVHL debut letting up 6 goals against the comatose Whaler's offense.
Due to the Nords losing 5 of their last 6, Brewers by 1 goal 4-3.
Nords mount comeback against Brewers 6-3.
Now the Gamblers aren't the only one line team in the UVHL. They have been officially joined by the Nords who have put a lethal combination together of Roger Phillips with Jordan McGee (and whoever else plays with them) conceived by none other than GM extrordinaire Kelly F'n Paaaaark. With Park in tow against the Brewers, McGee and Phillips combined for 5 goals and 6 assists. Park had a measley goal and 2 assists, but this trio scored ALL of the Nords points, every single last one of them. The only other Nord to get on the scoresheet was John McGee with a roughing minor.
The Brew Crew have been playing very good hockey as of late, win or lose. Almost their whole team is showing up, they are playing a good team game, and they have depth. New netminder Nick Louras is finding his comfort level after coming out of retirement to replace the huge Alaskan Pete Bartline in net, who is doing a medical internship in the Alaskan wilderness attempting to find natural healing plants for his syphillitic gonnorhea contracted at the annual med student kegger in a blurry haze of ice fountain shots and free prostate exams. To be honest, the Brewers got screwed in the penalty department. The refs have been doing their best job all season to non-call the games equally and fairly, but the Brewers deserved to see the Nords sit in the box more than just once this game with Brewers getting tripped up, hooked, and knocked down. Hey, we're not perfect, but we're doin our best... At least the refs were giving out assists in this one, and the 18 slices of pizza seemed to have helped our scorekeeper to not make an utter travesty of this game sheet, DUUUUDE! The Nords came into this one looking for two in a row after a dismal 5 consecutive losses, and although I offer no excuses, the Nords did play well during this stretch but just couldn't score enough to win losing 4 one goal games out of the 5 losses.
Early in the first Garren Poirier got nabbed for hooking (weird, huh?) at 13:41 to put the Nords on yet another pathetic power play that the Brewers easily shut down. Play was tight and both teams were skating hard, playing smart, and then Bill Fletcher put the Brew Crew up 1-0 at 7:56 from Sean McCabe, who was simply awesome in this game carrying the Brewers D, skating the puck up, making great passes, and shutting down everyone on the Nords except the "ONE LINE" (hey, even McCabe can't do it all). The Brewers stunned the Nords and made it 2-0 with a late period goal, the kind that makes coaches tear their hair out, when Chris Johnson found the back of the net at 1:21 from Poirier.
The second period saw no penalties, and continued hard and fast play. Jordan McGee pulled the Nords back within one at 13:04 from linemates Kelly Park and Roger Phillips showing the resilience of the team with the ugliest away jersey in the league (aka the Vagina Castle jersey). However, Bayley and McCabe were skating circles around the Nords, but it amounted to jack shit excpet for their combo for a Bayley goal at 8:13 to regain the 2 goal lead. At this point it looked like the Brewers wer in control and were well on their way to beating the Nords and keeping second place in the standings.
It was 3-1 going in to the third, and JT's calmness and professionalism kept his team on track and the between period speech was full of wisdom, zen, and high pitched girl-like screaming. The comeback was sparked by the "ONE LINE" catching fire scoring at 14:25 with McGee from Phillips and Park, then park at 13:45 at the tail end of the shift from Phillips and McGee to tie the game at 3 apiece. One period left and it was a tie game, but then the penalty parade started and frustrations came out. Poirier went for interference at 12:46, and although it was interference, to his defense there were MANY Nords non-calls prior to that. This sparked some whining about commish favoritism by the refs by the Brewers, but the Nords could not capitalize on this PP or with Jason Yehle in the box at 10:05 for hooking. McCabe was everywhere, and the Nords couldn't score without the "ONE LINE" on the ice. Phillips got his first of two in a row at 8:29 and 4:35, both from McGee, and both players now with 5 points on 5 Nords goals! Bayley and John McGee got into it at 7:27 with roughing minors, and then Joe Lyle lost his cool and held back referee Brian Martin from entering the scrum, received a misconduct, and then another misconduct for throwing the garbage can onto the ice on his exit to the locker room. Lyle was assessed a 2 game suspension for his tirade, and then the game continued without furhter incident. With the score 5-3 the Brewers pulled their goalie in an attempt to force OT, but Jordan McGee found the empty net with 18 seconds left to finish the "ONE LINE COMEBACK" with a final score of 6-3 Nords.

| Should be a GOOD ONE! Mar 10th, 2009 08:02 AM
Too bad "Super Cookie Dough" Charette won't be in this one due to fighting last week. Dan, way to pick a fight with someone 1/16th your size in Joey Hayes. It was like a Walrus picking a fight with a penguin.
Hopefully the Nords can put together a winning streak here.

Regardless, this should be a good game. Turner looked like a giant ball of shit last week too. So I'm not expecting much out of him in net either.
