ODDS: | Storm Kings by 2 |
OVER/UNDER: | 10 goals |
What Storm Kings team will show up tonight? Will it be the whiny group of babies that loves to think the world is against them and complain about everything, or will they remember what hockey is all about? I'm not quite sure, but regardless of their attitude, their offense is still terrifying. The Gamblers are flying high after a barn-burner 8-6 win over Tuck, giving them their first win of the season.
Willy "Mighty Mouse" Meyer's will be without one of his linemates on the top line due to a 1 game suspension for a leg check, which will definitely hurt their synergy as a team. On the other end of the ice, the Kinger's will be without superstar Robbie Barker, who doesn't have time for such a "serious" league. These two teams seem to be going in opposite directions though, the Gamblers seem to have found a bit of a groove and are getting better each week, while the Storm Kings are having attendance problems and inter-squad issues.
Both goaltenders can be outstanding, but we've also seen the ugly side. I'd have to give the edge to Condon on youth alone, but the Frenchy wins out in the looks department. Their styles are drastically different, as Frenchy looks like a really old version of Terry Sawchuk, and Condon.........well......a miniature version of a talentless Mike Richter.
It's a tough one to call considering you don't know who will show up for the Kingers. If they have Tommy Scull "Cracker" & Arthur "The Decapitator" Stout on defense, I would say that the Storm Kings are heavily favored, otherwise it will be a very close game. But.........with the speed of Meyer & Matty "The Mailman" Marrazzo, any defense may struggle. On the other side, the creative flair of Ryan "Magic Man" Sinclair teamed with the speed of "Whiny" Tim Leroy and "Mean" Dean Cashman is formidable.
I'm going out on a limb here, Storm Kings win 6-4
Kings & Queens love to Gamble
It was your classic battle in the UVHL as two inconsistent teams fought hard trying to straighten out their season. A game that saw 6 goals, 9 penalties, 65 saves AND a shootout.......this one had it all. The Storm Kings are coming off of one of their worst and most embarrassing losses in the history of their storied franchise, as their bickering and mouthing off to the official earned them a 7-5 loss to the Nordiques and a 2-1-1 record. The Gamblers on the other hand seem to be swinging up, starting out with an 0-2-1 record, took down the Tuck Turduckens in week 4.
The Gamblers should have been without Danny "The Animal" Ammel tonight due to an illegal leg check to Tuck's top forward Adam "Preying" Mantin. Co-Commissioner, Shawn "The Ball-less Wonder" McDermott overturned the call after talking with Ammel and taking his side of the story over that of the man with the TORN MCL and a corroboration by the scorekeeper. McBuffaloWings is currently under investigation for accepting a bribe from the Gambler's organization as well as having a physical done by league officials to see if he actually had balls at any point in his life. More to come on this breaking news in the near future.
Regardless of the rosters, both teams came to battle and took the customary 3 to 4 minutes to feel each out. The Storm Kings continued on their normal rout of playing a rough and tumble game as Tommy Scull "Kracker" took a retaliation roughing penalty 2:41 in, setting up a Gambler's goal just 10 seconds later. "Wet" Willy Meyer netted the Powerplay goal from Matty "The Milkman" Marrazzo & Danny Ammel. The Storm Kings bounced back just two minutes later when Ricky "Drama" Hughes slapper a quick snapper up over the shoulder of a downed & screened Jered "Dirty & Used" Condon. Tyson Seeley "Mattress" jammed in a rebound under a minute later and with 9:18 to play to put the Gamblers up by a goal. Ian "Gullible" Gill scored off of a "Mean" Dean Cashman rebound with 3:31 to go in the period to tie the game up. Artie "The Party" Stout closed out the first period with with a beautiful slashing penalty with just over two minutes to play.
END OF THE FIRST: Gamblers 2, Storm Kings 2
SAVES: Condon(GMB) 10, French(STK) 12
The Second period started off with some good flow with some stellar saves at both ends of the ice. Artie Stout took his 2nd minor penalty of the night for bodychecking just 3:22 into the period and on the ensuing power play Willy "Mighty Mouse" Meyer took advantage of yet another Dan French EGOTASTICAL turnover. You see....as a goaltender, Danny loves to play the puck, and is definitely the all time UVHL leader in assists for a goaltender, but that ego and the desire for offensive glory tends to get Dan into trouble on 1 out of every 20 chances he takes. This time, Meyer picked off a clearing pass by Frenchy out of mid-air and tapped it into the open net for his second powerplay goal of the game and the 3-2 lead. Other than that it was a hard fought clean battle between the two teams. Condon came up huge at the 3 minute mark with back-to-back-to-back saves including a "RETAHHHHHDED glove save on "Mean" Dean Cashman" as quoted by McDermott on his exceptional audio recaps. At 2:24 Scotty "Too Hotty" Fraser went to the box for an interference call on Artie "The One Man Party" Stout, leading to a dismal, 1 shot, power play for the Kingers. Right before the buzzer rang, "a rare COUGH UP in the neutral zone, by Stuey Close.......Marrazzo grabbed it and went in on the breakaway......and Frenchy made a RETARDED save with the stick turned out to deny Marrazzo & the Gamblers a two goal lead." I'm not quite sure what McChunk meant by "Stick Turned Out", but Johnny Turner clarified that it was a hell of a stick save, low blocker side.
END OF THE SECOND: Gamblers 3, Storm Kings 2
SAVES: Condon(GMB) 24, French(STK) 20
The third period rallied some hidden aggression as the two team racked up 10 minutes of penalties, including a Cashman Tripping call at 13:58 quickly followed by a Joey "You Got The Right Stuff........BAAAABAYYYYY" McIntyre High Sticking call 58 seconds later. With some open ice and 4 on 4 action for over a minute, the Kinger's Dan French made up for his earlier mis-hap, CLEARLY not phased by his devestating turnover earlier in the game, and found "The Danimal" Danny Ammel in the neutral zone. Ammel made a great move around a defender before finding Martin "White Beard" White all alone with a flask of Fine Scotch at the back door to tie the game up. The only player in the UVHL who never deserves a penalty he got, Tommy Scull, racked up 2 more for his 2nd & 3rd of the night as well as drawing a cross-checking penalty on Jason Young with 4:51 to play. The Gamblers did muster another quality scoring chance while on the powerplay and under 30 seconds to go, only to be shut down by a FANTASTIC French Flying glove. Other than the one goal & two penalties, the Gamblers pelted Frenchy with 15 shots while only allowing the Kings 6.

Hold on, DiPietro has talent? You are more like an over the hill Byron Dafoe. But hey, I don't know much about goalies other than TURNING THEM INSIDE OUT! Good luck tonight bud!
