ODDS: | Nords by 2 goal |
OVER/UNDER: | 10 goals |
The Storm Kings (2-1-0) host the Nordiques (3-0-0) in the late game of week 4. The Nordiques have been rolling over everyone this year, outscoring their opponents 26 to 4 in three games. Leading the way is Johnny "Showtime" Turner, who was 43 seconds away from the first back to back shutouts in UVHL history. Turner has been a wall, but hasn't faced the dynamic offense of the Storm Kings yet. The Kingers are lead by possibly the best line to ever play in the UVHL with "Tiny" Timmy Leroy(8g, 6a in 3GP) centering Ryan "Sugar" Sinclair(8g, 6a in 3GP) & Robbie "The Price Is WRONG" Barker(4g, 5a in 2GP).
The Nords are rejuvenated by youth & speed leading the way. The McGee Brothers, Jordan(4g, 7a in 3GP) & John(2g, 2a plus solid defense), have been a huge addition for this team, but the top line of Gregory "The Butcher of Guelph" Marsh(5g, 6a), Ian "Jacket" Coates(5g, 6a) & Roger "The Drill" Phillips(2g, 3a) have been outstanding.
...more to come.
Ugly, Ugly, Ugly. Nords power past Kingers to stay perfect.
The Storm Kings(2-1-0) and Nordiques(3-0-0) clashed in an epic and painful game to watch tonight. Sparked by controversy, poor sportsmanship & tons of complaining. The Storm Kings were riding a light bench tonight, which generally helps their cause, but rumors of pre-game arguments among the Storm Kings clubhouse are being leaked to the media and could be the cause for the poor play & sportsmanship. The Storm Kings have already had one of their top players, Robbie "The Price is Right" Barker, quit. The team was citing scheduling conflicts as the reason, but an insider has said that Barker thinks "The League is too Serious". TOO SERIOUS? Have you watched how competitive & serious the Kingers are?
The Nordiques on the other hand were holding the only undefeated record since the Brewers took a tough loss to the Whalers earlier in the night. The Nords have been a welloiled machine, outscoring their opponents 26-4 in their first 3 games. Leading the way is Johnny "Temper Tantrum" Turner with 2 GP and 1 GAA.
Both teams started the game with a reserved gameplan, as the Kingers were extremely shorthanded & the Nordiques were more than aware of their opponents dynamic offense. Little happened through the first 12 and a half minutes, besides a Dan "Jumpin'" Jodice tripping penalty and a matching roughing minors to Ryan "Kitchen" Sinclair & Andy "Pooch" Puchilak. Sinclair did return to the ice and beat "Temper" Turner with perfect snapper from the tops of the circles, using Johnny "Macho Man" McGee as a screen.
END OF THE FIRST: Storm Kings 1, Nordiques 0

The Nordiques had an exceptional chalk talk in-between periods where captain Tao "Buddha" Smith recited some of his best material, including "Shoot, Pass, Kick Their Ass", "Love The Puck" & my favorite "Put Some Gravy on that Buiscuit, Butter it Up and Slip It Through Frenchy's Dirty Pads." The Nords bounced right back into the game with a pair of goals in the first 2 minutes and 6 seconds. Ian "The Grin" Coates tied the game 80 seconds in from Gregory "The Meat Machine" Marsh before Mikey "Spunky" O'Neil put the Nords on top at 12:54. Rodger "Dodger" Phillips pulled out his dirty dentist drill and put the Nords up 3-1 with a Shorthanded goal. The quick lead change added to the exhaustion of the short bench turned the Storm Kings into a lazy & chippy team. The Kinger's not only got chippier, but started running their mouths at the refs, who had finally had enough of their dirty play and attitudes. This resulted in 3 quick calls against them, starting with a "Whiny" Tim Leroy tripping call, followed by a matching roughing call against Ronnie "The Sprite" Dupuis & Jordan "Knight" McGee. Sinclair took a BLATANT hooking call which he didn't argue before the Kinger's netminder exploded after being called for punching the Nord's Smith in the back of the head 10 times for screening him on the powerplay. Amazing French didn't think that the refs would call an obvious penalty on him because he already had 3 of his 7 skaters in the box, but OHHHHHH was he wrong. Amazingly though, the Nordiques couldn't even score on the extended 2 man advantage. Not only did they NOT score, but Patty Turcotte scored a shorthanded goal after chipping the puck past the pointman, freezing Turner with a quick move to the center and then firing the puck upstairs gloves side. It was a beautiful goal and brought the Kingers back within a goal, 3-2. The Nord's added another one with 43 seconds to go as Smith hit Park with perfect no-look breakout pass that was very uncharacteristic. I mean Tao actually didn't turn the puck over in his own zone. Anyways Park walked into the zone, dropped the puck to Davey Willis at the line and pulled the defense towards the net with him. Willis feathered a perfect pass through both defenseman to Park who tipped it past French from the top of the crease.
END OF THE SECOND: Storm Kings 2, Nordiques 4
SAVES: French(STK) 17, Turner(NDQ) 10
Turner immediately skated to his bench after the buzzer rang, chewing out both teams & the refs. "This game is an embarrassment, I shouldn't have even wasted my time coming tonight!!!!" Turner was on fire about the attitude the Storm Kings had, how they complained about every penalty & non-call. The play was choppy without a flow and dirty from both sides, and Turner had had enough. His temper tantrum did seem to help as the third was a tad bit more civil. The Nords added another goal early as Mikey O'Neil broke down the far boards and beat Frency with a perfect low shot on the inside post. The Kingers bounced back just a minute later after Ronnie Dupuis took a nice pass from Sinclair and buried it on Turner to keep it a 2 goal game with just over 12 minutes to play. The Dirty Dentist, Roger Phillips, potted his 2nd of the night and 5th on the season from The Minister of Defense, Tommy Dakai(pronounced Day-Key) only 10 seconds later, taking some air out of the Storm Kings sails. But leave it to Sinclair to bounce back with his 2nd of the night, assisted by Leroy with 8:30 to go. "Mean" Dean Cashman brought it back within a goal as he turned the net and threw one out in front, bouncing it off of an unsuspecting Park's ankle with just under 3 minutes to play. The Kings pressured but were shut down by Turner and his defense before Phillips completed the hat trick with only 5 seconds to play, keeping the Nordiques hopes for an undefeated season alive!!!!

| I just don't know what to say about this one... Nov 7th, 2008 04:04 PM
This was a weird game, to say the least. The Kingers were missing players, but had more than enough talent to score 5 goals and win. The Nords played down for the first time this season and looked flat at many points in the game, that is for sure. Pat Turcotte scored a NASTY goal, probably the best goal I have seen all season, and it was legit because it was a breakaway on JT, unequivocally the best UVHL goalie ever (there, I said it - happy now?). If Scully and Stout decided to make a guest appearance at a late game it would have been a different story. Sinclair could be the most talented player ever to grace the UVHL ice surface, other than the 2 former Bruins (Brad Park and Jeff Norton). Even a little out of shape Sinclair kept the Kings in it, and did his best to have fun when it got chippy and a little ridiculous. It seems that we can't please everybody... First there are complaints that there are too many penalties called with USA Hockey, then we drop USA Hockey and go to 1 ref to save everyone as much $ as possible and now there are complaints that there are not enough penalties called... MAKE UP YOUR FUCKING MINDS OR GO PLAY IN THE B LEAGUE! | | | | |
