ODDS: | Nordiques by 2 goals |
OVER/UNDER: | 8.5 goals |
The battle of the two inconsistencies. Both the Nords & Leafs have shown flashes of brilliance at points this season. Both of these teams should have stayed home and NOT embarrassed themselves already this season.
These are not two of the most talented teams in the UVHL this year, but both have a good work ethic and pressure the play in all 3 zones if they are on their games. The Maple Leafs need to play a bit smarter hockey and save a bit of energy for the 3rd period. They tend to play excellent hockey through the first 2 and then let things get away from them in the 3rd. The Nordiques are looking for new additions, Richie McKenna & Roger Phillips, to step up their game and start producing more on an individual level rather than trying to force passes in an attempt to not piss anyone off on their new teams.
Some other thoughts:
- Odds that somebody will step on the smurf (Sean Casavant) 4:1.
- Odds that McDermott with throw a temper-tantrum 8-1.
- Over / Under on the # of Spin-O-Ramas that Crapser does in the defensive zone: 4.
- Over / Under on 5-hole goals let in by Le Lallier: 3.
- Over / Under on times that Mikey O'Neil cherry picks: 7.
Nordiques outlast Maple Leafs 4-2
It was a battle of the basement when the 1-2 Nords took on the 1-2 Leafs. The Nords were favored by 2 goals in this one and did just that, but the Leafs battled the entire way, and it took an empty netter in the end to put the Nords up by 2.
Apparently some comments by the webmaster...."The Nords take on the LOWLY Leafs"....fired up the Leafs to the point where they were making verbal threats to Kelly Park as he entered their locker room. Kenny "Captain Five-Hole" Lallier said he sharpened his goalie stick. Sean "The 35 year old man trapped in an 8 year old chubby girls body" Casavant said that he was going to do something as well, but I couldn't understand that high pitched little girly threat that me made.
The Nordiques came out flying, scoring only 56 seconds into the game as Greg "The Super Sensitive Giant" Marsh tracked down a bouncing puck off of the back boards and fired it past a sliding Lallier....NOT FIVE HOLE!!!!! The Nords carried the play for the next five minutes until Kelly Park picked up a loose puck that was knocked off of "Dainty" Dan Jones' stick. Park fired a heat seaking vulcanized missle of pure Lallier HATRED through a screen of about 300 Spartans ringing off of both posts and in. Lallier claims that he never saw it, but some have said he was afraid and hiding behind Kirt "The Lanky Lurker" Johnson.
Davey "Power Tool Lovin'" Willis netted a junker 2 minutes and 1 second later. "(there was) Just some shit in front of the net and I kept bangin'" was Willis' response to the game winner.
The Leafs decided to wake up in the second, and started carrying the play over an over-confident Nordiques squad. John "You may think I'm Casavant's better looking dwarfy twin" Thomas turned on the talent as he start turning Shawn "I'm the best defensive defenseman without the puck and in the neutral zone" McBuffaloWings INSIDE OUT. For a guy who just started playing competitive hockey 3 or 4 years ago, John Thomas, is really showing some talent on the ice.
The leafs continued their good play into the second, peppering Turner with shot after shot, until they FINALLY broke through with 2:17 remaining as Joey "The Mute" Hayes found a loose puck that Greg "CENSORED FOR OVERLY SENSITIVE PLAYER" Marsh couldn't manage to get out of the zone. In all fairness, Kelly Park was picking his nose at the blue line looking for a break out and Dan Jones had melted into the ice somewhere. Anyways, Eric "New Guy" Gattie took a nice low point shot that was expertly tipped in the high slot by "The Mute" past a screened Turner who WAILED like a burn victim because his shutout was lost.
It only took 10 seconds more for the Maple Leafs to capitalize on that SHITTY line of MARSH-PARK-JONES, as Greg "CENSORED" Marsh lost the puck in the high slot. Gattie stripped the puck in the high slot and shot through a sea of little blue terds....probably Casavant and Thomas.
The Nords were finally able to relax with 6 seconds left as Roger "McBuffaloWings Man Crush" Phillips intercepted a horrible pass from one of those Leafs defensemen and very calmly slid it into the empty net.
The Leafs outshot the Nords 36-35, and played their hearts out. If it wasn't for a lackluster first period, the Leafs very well could have beaten the Nordiques tonight. Lallier was great, coming up with some huge saves at the right moments to keep his team in it. If he weren't afraid of Park, this also could have been a different game.
