Kings and Potter atop standings 4-3-1; Avs drop to 4-4; Stars 3-5.
Methinks something sinister is afoot...thus far the Avalanche have won every POW this UVHL Mud season, and there must be a conspiracy for them to take all POW honors, and therefore all the free beer from Long Trail, on their way to their first Men's League Championship, or so they say. "Operation Total Domination" is in effect! Too bad their on-ice plan isn't up to par, because the Avs lost their two games and now sit in 3rd place with a 4-4 record after being in first place after 6 games with a 4-2 record. The Avs were upset by the Stars on 4/3 in a 5-1 loss that the Stars dominated, believe it or not. For only the second time this Mud season the Stars had a full squad there, and it made a huge difference. JT had the shutout well in hand until Christian Isaac scored after putting the jinx on him, and McSelfish had the assist. For the Stars Doug Heavisides and Jason Loomis led the attack with 1G, 1A each. The Avs then fell to Potter after storming to a 4-0 lead halfway through the first period. Potter came back with the usual heriocs of Will Meyer, and ended up defeating the Avs 8-6 in the comeback upset on 4/5. Meyer finished the game with 3G, 1A and had the GWG in the third period.
The Storm Kings had the best week in the UVHL Muds, and they rolled to two victories and finally had their whole team at both games, for the most part. It made a huge difference, and they were barely unrecognizable from the team that was on the ice for the first 6 games of the spring season. The Kings trounced Potter 10-5 on 4/3 led by Adam Hogg with 4G, 2A, and then they destroyed the Stars 8-1 on 4/5 with Hogger again leading the attack with 2G, 2A. Five unassisted goals were given out between the two teams in the Kings-Potter match-up, and I'm not buying it. We want our stats, refs! Frenchy stopped all but 1 of 12 shots against the Stars, and did what he had to do to give his offensive juggernaut squad two wins for the week and a tie for best record at 4-3-1 with Potter. The Stars went from awesome to pathetic in one game. Against the Avs they were rolling three lines and had a great team game and concept, but against the Kings they had 10 skaters that all looked like chickens with their heads cut off against the potent attack of Coakley and Hogg. This duo had one of their best UVHL games ever, including the entire full season, and they were incredibly tough to defend and controlled the play whenever they were on the ice. Adding Dean Cashman to the mix with his 2G, 1A against the Stars makes this a very formidable line at both ends of the rink, and if Turco was in the line-up it would give the Kings two dangerous scoring lines. The Stars had no team game whatsoever, and felt bad that they sucked and didn't really give the Kings a game - truly the first game this Mud season that the Stars weren't competitive at all. However, the 5 unassisted goals out of 8 scored by the Storm Kings were legit in this one because the Stars coughed up the puck countless times trying to break it out of their own end or get through the neutral zone.
