Nords barely beat tough Bruins in yet another 1-goal game on 1/16:
You had to be ready to play in this one from the drop of the puck on the opening face-off! The Bruins had all their horses there and they were hungry for a win. They skated hard, fast, and furiously and pushed the Nords to the limit in this 1-goal game. The teams traded goals through the end of the first two frames, and it wasn't decided until the third period. But even as good as this game was, it wasn't even the best UVHL game of the night (more later on that one), believe it or not!
Don Powers started off the scoring getting his Bruins on the board with an unassisted goal at 7:33 of the first. At the end of the period Drew Crapser pounced on a pass from Ian Coates, who ws fed by Mike O'Neil, and Crapser's slapper found the back of the net at 2:42.
In the second Matt Marrazzo buried one of his many chances, and Powers picked up the first assist after Tony DeFelice found him open to feed Marrazzo for the goal. Marrazzo was flying in this game, and his switch to center made a significant difference for the Bruins, and at times the Nords didn't know what to make of Marrazzo, and he beat McDermott at least 3 times with speed and tenacity. Luckily JT bailed out his defenseman more than once! Although Marrazzo was abnormally fast, he could not match the speed of Will Meyer, but he did have the slight edge overall in the game as the best player, in my opinion (and we've already established that Willy is my favorite hockey player EVER, so this compliment is a high one). Great game, Matt! Answering for the Nords with a huge goal was Meyer at 7:39, assisted by Ian Bartrum and Dan Jones. Jonesy just returned from an ankle injury that saw him miss the last 3 games, so the Nords welcomed back their winger who made a difference in his first game back. Another difference maker was Dave DeSchamp on the Bruins' blueline, switched from his normal post on the wing, but DeSchamp played an important role in getting control of the puck in the B's end, and skated it out or made smart first passes to create more offense for the B's, and it worked.
The final period saw Mike O'Neil score fairly early at 11:47 from Greg Marsh and Drew Crapser to put the Nords ahead 3-2 with lots of game still left to play. The lone penaltyof the game went to Powers at 6:26 for tripping, but the Nords did not solve Hadley on the PP, but it did waste valuable time for the B's to mount a comeback. They got several chances to send it to OT, Marrazzo was flying, but JT was solid in the Nords' net and kept the puck out for another 1-goal win for his team.
