Nords-Leafs "battle of the goalies" on 4/13!
It was billed as the "battle of the goalies" in a pre-game war between JT and Hadley as their war of words peaked last Thursday in the ongoing debate of who was the better forward. They had planned on JT skating on the wing and Hadley returning between the pipes for a match-up against the Leafs. It got even better when Dwight O'Hara showed up in town back in his old stomping grounds looking to get in a UVHL game thereby allowing JT and Hadley to BOTH skate out simultaneously and permitting legit comparisons between the two goalies on the wing. However, it never materialized as JT's work got in the way and his expertise was needed to finalize a big pitch to an important client. O'Hara returned to the UVHL in the Nordiques net with a guest appearance all the way from Utah far, far away from his three wives and fourteen kids. Yes, I'm kidding, it is three former Mormon virgin girlfriends and one illegitimate child named Jesus, and he missed them dearly but still brought his A-game. (Yes, it is Jesus, Mary, Melissa, Susan, and Dwight in the very next New Testament coming your way in about 32 years...). Subs Kyle Koetsier and Jesse Robinson helped shore up an otherwise short nords bench, and the teams were pretty even as Wing, Loomis, Leger and Thomas were missing for the Leafs. The Leafs scored the only goal od the first early on at 12:17 when Uncle Douggie, Mr. H, scored on O'Hara like it was Sunday night at Hartford in 1999 from Chip Davis and Sean Casavant. In the second Mike O'Neil continued his strong spring play for the Nords scoring at 13:27 from linemate Greg Marsh. Leaf forward Chris Gogan went to the box for tripping at 4:13 and Nords sub Jesse Robinson scored from the point at 2:24 set up by Dan Ammel and Al Sorrentino to end th eperiod 2-1 for teh Nords in this tight game. Both teams were playing well, and there were battles for the puck at both ends, and good plays offensively and defensively in the neutral zone as both squads fought for puck supremacy. Fred Redden tied it up at 2-2 with an off-wing blast from the side of the circle that beat O'Hara from Kirt Johnson, and it was anyone's game with 10:58 to go. Mike O'Neil scored shortly thereafter at 10:36 to put the Nords back on top from Kelly Park and Marshy. At 7:43 Kyle Koetsier surprised everyone, inlcuding himself, with a solo effort off a neutral zone steal that saw him go in to beat two Leaf defenders and Leaf goalie Ken Lallier for a Nords unassisted insurance goal. Greg Hadley got on the socresheet at 3:08, but it wasn't for a point, it was for hooking, and the debate continues in the in-house fight for best goalie forward on the Nords, but the Leafs couldn't capitalize, not even with Shrekkie (big Alec Jessiman) firmly planted in front of O'Hara the Nords net. O'Neil completed the game of his life with the empty netter and Hat Trick woth only 8 seconds to go, assisted again by his linemate Greg Marsh (who, of course, went to the refs to make sure he got the assist).
