Nords exact revenge on Tuck for past sins on Feb 7th
Big thanks to Ken Lallier taking over in the Tuck net on this night after being shelled by the Bruins only to get shelled again by the Nords. It wasn't personal, Kenny! unfortunately you and the first year Tuck players had to pay the price for the shellaquings the Nords took last season at the hands of Tuck's Big Green Machine and Tuck's captain John Fox, winger Matt Waterbury, and defenseman Tim Weld. At the bar afterwards the Tuck first year players were not particularly appreciative of their second year and returning teammates to the Tuck squad this season, and Fox and Weld had to buy their own beers. Without goalies Meg Becker or Anik Cote available, Tuck had to turn to Leaf goalie Ken Lallier for a favor in net. Being without playmaker Gary Hunter, stickhandling defenseman extrordinaire Drew Crapser, and tenacious winger Matt Waterbury certainly did not help Tuck's chances in this game. However, the Nords didn't care, were only without Mike O'Neil, and were firing on all cyinders trying to ensure a second place finish and first round bye going into the Whalen Cup Playoffs with the Bruins hot on their heels. Alec Roomet got on the scoresheet first for Tuck, but with a bodychecking penalty at 13:23. No scoring by the Nords on the PP, and they answered with a minor of their own to Jason Gaudette for high sticking at 9:06. The first period was played very even and the Nords entered the second period up 1-0 on the strength of captain Tao Smith's goal at 6:59, the only goal of the period, from winger Dave Willis and big D Tom Dakai. Nords winger Dan Jones received a high sticking call at 3:04, but the Nords defended well. Tuck captain John Fox tied the game early in the second at 14:13 with an unassisted effort that beat JT to tie it at 1 aside. Greg Marsh got two for roughing for the Nords at 13:54 of the second period after serving notice to Alec Roomet that he could play the body, too. Again, the Nords shut down the Tuck PP. Will Meyer made it 2-1 for the Nords at 11:19 from linemates Ian Coates and Deanna McDevitt. Nine and a half scoreless minutes ensued, although there was another Nords penalty, this time to Ian Coates who played the body on, guess who, the very physical Alec Roomet and Coates went to the box at 9:50 for bodychecking, but the Nords denied all PP chances yet again. Tuck captain John Fox took the final penalty of the game at 3:50 for checking and Dakai scored at 1:58 from Meyer and Park on the Nords PP. Meyer scored again barely 13 seconds later at 1:45 from McDevitt and McDermott to end the period 4-1 for the Nords. Fatigue set in for Tuck in the third as an otherwise closely played game whose score did not accurately reflect Tuck's effort or play continued. Willis scored at 13:47 for the Nords from Smith and Dakai, and followed up with another at 9:36 from Kelly Park. Ian Coates put his team up 7-1 at 6:49 from linemates Meyer and McDevitt. Jim Hampe answered for Tuck 19 seconds later from Alex Tatum. Captain Smith scored for the Nords at 4:24 from Tom Dakai adding to his game leading point total. Coates added his second of the period at 2:54 from McDermott and McDevitt, and Greg Marsh finished off the scoring at 2:41 off a feed from Kelly Park. At one point in the middle of the third period someone on the Nords bench told his teammates to tone it down, but the response was "Tuck never took it easy against us last year", and so it was.
