Avalanche buried by Nords 9-3

The Nords have been scoring lately and they just don't know why, but they're not complaining. We're not even sure if JB's A-game could have stopped the Nords on this night, and each of the Nords' three forward lines scored on thier first shifts of the game, likely a UVHL first. Greg Marsh started it off with a goal at 14:44 of the first, only 16 seconds into the contest, from linemate Jason Gaudette and quarterbacked by Kelly Park. Nords winger Will Meyer scored at 13:11 from his centerman Ian Coates' feed. Then it was captain Tao Smith's turn at 12:10 from Dan Coffey and Dave Willis. Before you knew it it was 3-0 Nords, but the Avs answered at 10:52 when Aaron Guyette converted a pass from his linemates Marcus Ericsson and Jami James. The first period scoring ended at 4:55 on Mike O'Neil's goal from Coates and Willis to leave it 4-1 to start the second. Coates took a holding minor as the period ended but Meyer scored a shorty at 13:44 of the second to put the Nords up 5-1. The Avs answered again at 12:57 on Jami James' goal from Marcus Ericsson. Tha Avs were inspired and scored again, this time on an incredible goalmouth pass at 11:07 fed through two Nords D onto the stick of John Brown by Fred McNutt who somehow found a seam and did his best Gary Hunter and Ryan Sinclair impression after receiveing the set-up pass from Al Sorrentino in the neutral zone. Somehow the puck made its way through and Brown's one-touch goal that was right on his tape at the perfect moment beat JT who had no chance to get across. It was the play of the game! Nice goal, fellas! Suddenly it was 5-3 and the Avs were back in it, but the Nords didn't allow any more foolin' around in their defensive end and controlled the game after big Tom Dakai stormed in from the point to score on JB with 3:43 left in the second from Dave Willis to make it 6-3 and no looking back. Kevin Calder got a tripping minor for the Avs at 0:52, but the Avs shut down the Nords attack. In the third Calder got another minor, tripping again at 11:38, and the Avs shut down the Nords PP yet again. It was only a minor delay for the Nords and they shook off their power play inadequacies as Ian Coates scored his first of two from Will Meyer at 8:55 and then at 8:09 from Deanna McDevitt and Mike O'Neil. Dave Willis finished it off for the Nords at 6:20 assisted by Tao Smith.
