Coakly leads Kings to Victory over Bruins
No player has been more dominant this season than Sean Coakley. In last-nights Storm Kings win he led all scorers with 6 goals and 1 assist. Coakley got the Kings started with to back-to-back unassisted goals at 12:33 and 12:21 respectively. Coakley entered the Bruins zone split the defense and cut across the net, forcing the puck shortside as goalie Greg Hadley left the post. Off the ensuing draw and 12 seconds later Coakley repeated the same move this time shooting over Hadley's glove. The two teams traded chances until Tony De Felice brought the Bs within one at 9:56 from Rob Pelletier and Erik Pearse. The Storm Kings played most of the rest of the first period short-handed. Goalie Dan French was whistled for interference at 9:27. French feeling that he was protecting his crease protested and received an unsportmanlike minor. The Kings not only survived, but thrived as John Murphy intercepted an errant Hadley pass and pocketed the short-handed tally. Coakley scored his third goal of the game with a hard wrister past Hadley with 2:56 remaining. Coakley started off the second period with another goal with a nice feed from Rick Hughes. Then with 13:05 remaining Marty White scored from newly signed Tony Pippen. After yielding six goals Hadley settled down and held the high-powered Kings at bay for the rest of the second, giving the Bruins a chance to battle back. De Felice scored his second of the night beating French on rebound from a hard shot from the point by Andy Holland. With eight minutes remaining Scott Fraser crashed the net and buried an across-the-crease feed from Matt Marrazzo cutting the deficit to 6-3. The third period was all Kings as Kelly Park scored unassited at 8:18 and Sean Coakley polished off his six goal performance with to goals. The first at 7:55 from Singe Arnold and the second from Murphy.
