In the first game of the night we had the Blues (1-0) hosting the Whalers (0-0).  The Whalers like everyone else in the league had some subtraction but also some addition to the roster.  With this being the Whalers first game with a new team you would think it would take some time to get on the scoreboard but the Whalers were the first to get on the board with a goal from Mike Avery at 11:33 mark in the period.  The Blues would pick up their play and Tim Sharek would tie the game at one with 9:41 remaining in the period. The period would continue to be back and forth until the Blues Tyler White put his team up 2-1 at the 4:41 mark.  The period would end with the Blues up 2-1.

In the second period the Blues picked up their play and taking it to the Whalers, but Kenny Lallier brought his "A" game tonight and turned away shot after shot keeping his team in the game. The Whalers would build off his saves and tie the game up with 5:16 left in the second on a goal from Marc Stannard. Although the score was tied the Blues keep the pressure on the Whalers and finally they would grab the lead again on a goal from Brian Smith with 1:50 left in the period.  The Blues would then score another goal just 30 seconds later to put them up 4-2 on a goal from Jason Mikula with a 1:20 left in the period.  The period would end with the Blues up 4-2 but it should be noted that Whalers Kenny Lallier kept his team in the game with 19 saves in the second frame alone.

In the third both teams had plenty of chances and the Whalers got a power play with 6:40 left in the period but they couldn't capitalize on it. Shortly after the penalty expired the Blues went up 5-2 on a goal from Garren Porrier with 4:27 left in the game.  The Blues again would give the Whalers a chance on the power play but they couldn't capitalize as the Blues would go hold on to win the game by the score of 5-2.
