Lumberjacks get there first win in the UVHL

With Tuck coming off a big win last week and the Lumberjacks looking for their first ever win this one was a battle. Both teams came out playing hard and fast but there was no score until the 4:22 mark of the first period. The Lumberjacks opened the scoring with a nice goal from Christian Henault as the assist went to Sean Murphy and Marc Gattie. Tuck pushed back but couldn"t get one past Zach Lary who ended the period with 15 saves.
The second period started with Tuck continuing to pressure the Jacks as they were able to generate a lot of 2 on 1"s and 3 on 1"s as the Jacks defense decided to not show up. Again Zach Lary was bailing them out time after time making a 11 saves in the second and giving up a late goal with just 41 seconds left in the period. Tuck got on the scoreboard as Mark Rautiola was able to split the D on a nice pass from Michal Boches to put the puck past Lary low glove side tying the game 1-1.

The third period started off with even play from both teams, things started to get a bit chippy as both teams were showing frustration they couldn"t get the go ahead goal. Dan Rosen made a huge save with about 9 minutes left in the game on a shorthanded breakaway bid by the Jacks. The game continued to go back and forth until the 4:41 mark of the period when Johnny Mathias of Tuck got called for a double minor roughing penalty and a game misconduct for arguing with the referee on the call. Mathias double minor was the turning point of this game, the Jacks couldn"t capitalize at first as Rosen kept shutting the door. Then half way through the four minute penalty Christian Henault tallied his second of the night from Jordan McGee and Sean Murphy putting the Jacks up 2-1. Tuck continued to pressure late but was not able to get one past Lary as he made 10 saves in the last period giving him a total of 36 saves.

Notables: Zach Lary had another huge night in net for the Jacks, if he plays like this all year they could be very hard team to beat! Also Johnny Mathias will be sitting out next week for his game misconduct, let this be reminder to the rest of the league that whether or not you like the call the ref"s always have the final say so please just go to the box.
