Whalers Dominate Nordiques 5-1

The Nordiques (6-3-0) walked into their game against the Whalers (3-5-1) with visions of sugar plums dancing in their heads and walked away with a thorough ass-kicking that would linger throughout the Christmas break.

The Nordiques looked completely and utterly unprepared while the Whalers looked like a well oiled machine. The Whalers jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first period outshooting the energy-less Nordiques 11-4. With a pair of goals from Jason "Grumbling" Gramling. In his first game back this season, Gramling was fantastic scoring two early goals and adding an assist later on to get himself nominated for the first star of the game and a Player Of the Week nomination.

The middle frame was scoreless, but the Nordiques had to kill off two Whaler power plays to keep the game in reach.

The Nordiques cut the lead in half with 13:13 left to play in the third period on a nifty play by their centerman Ian "Toothless" Coates. Coates was in Gretzky's office with no options and flipped a pass over the net into the high slot, landing on Kelly "The Mouth" Park's stick. Park's shot was pushed to the side with a kick save by the Whaler's Kenny "La Glove" Lallier, only to find Coates waiting on the side of the net for the rebound.

That was as close or as good as it was going to get for the Nordiques as the Whalers potted a trio of goals to close out the game. The first came from Jason Roulliard who marched down the near side on a two on one and lit up the Nordique's Johnny "Temper Tantrum" Turner with a beautiful snapshot under the crossbar, glove side.

Dillan "Pieces" Pierce cleaned up some garbage in front of the net after the Nordique's Park failed to clear a loose puck to the corner...sending Park to the bench head hanging and a tear in his eye.

Mike "Sean" Avery put the nail in the coffin with 7:37 to play with a quick wrister from just inside the blue line, using a Nordique's defenseman as a screen, beating Turner glove side as well.

The Nordiques were only able to muster 16 shots on net in 45 minutes of play. They looked awful. The Whaler's were rolling three lines deep and had the energy and more talent than the Nordiques tonight...winning almost every battle and earning a solid win.
