Poirier loves the Upper Decker.....Brewers win 6-4.

What a game this one was as the Tuckies(4-8-0) hosted the Brewers(7-5-0). It was a game where the Brewers came out FLYING, and totally dominated a hapless Tuck team early in the game, but pulled a little Whaleritis as they fell apart in the 3rd and let Tuck back in this one. The Brew Crew was led by Garren "The Stick Figure" Poirier who was the MASTER OF DISGUISE out there. Poirier disguised himself as a goal post 4 times, the goal line twice, the netting twice and even tricked a Tuck player into thinking that Poirier was his stick for an entire period, forcing turnovers left and right. His determination & perseverance paid off as Poirier netted 3 goals, two of them were spectacular shots.

The Brewers wasted no time as they won the opening faceoff, darted down the zone and Poirier found a loose puck in the slot that he rammed home like an 18 year old girl with daddy issues. That goal was unassisted just 12 seconds in and really set the tone for the first period, if not the game. Christian "Hell Boy" Isaac made it 2 to Nuttin' with 5:38 to play when he took a pass from Chris "Turtle" Johnson at Tuck's blue line. Isaac threw a shake-n-bake at Takashi "Mitsubishi" Mikoshiba with a toe drag to the outside, cut back to the front of the net traversing the crease before firing the puck back 5-holio on Tuck's Ryan "The Hot Fizz" Fitzgerald at 5:38 of the first. Exactly a minute later, I think it Mike "Nair" Adair made an ill-advised pass from his own corner up the middle of the ice. The puck only went about 15 where Poirier was waiting at the near faceoff dot to pick it off. Fitzgerald looked like one of those fainting goats as Poirier rifled on of the hardest snap-shots upper deck over Fitzgerald to put his team up 3-0 and 4:38 to play in the first period. Poirier wasn't quite done as he and Isaac formed some good old fashioned Brewer Man-Love with a nice give and go and reach around. The play started in the neutral zone where Poirier fed a nice chocolate biscuit to Isaac streaking up the near boards. Isaac took the puck hard to the corner, drawing 2 defenders with before dishing the puck perfectly to Poirier at the faceoff dot. It was like deja-vu all over again, as it was Fitzy vs. Poirier at the near face-off dot. Both parties repeated the earlier play, as Fitzy went down and Poirier fired a missle upstairs to put the Brewers up 4-0 with 2:01 to play. In an effort to spark his team and with 25 seconds to play, Adam "Mantra" Mantin went end to end, turning Brewer's defenseman Seany "The Ladies Man" McCabe inside out and then forcing Petey "Bust A Move" Bartline to make a nasty kick save to secure the 4-0 lead. Mantin's move made McCabe look like a rookie on a Mite C team based out of Rwanda.....that's Africa for you geographically challenged mongoloids. I did try to get a quote out of Mantin as the buzzer rang but he gave a half smile and turned as a tear drifted soulfully down his cheek.

END OF THE FIRST: Brewers dominate 4-0

In-between periods, Tuck had a heart felt speech from co-captain Takashi Mikoshiba that fired them up. The speech was all in Japanese, but really seemed to light a fire under the collective asses of Tuck as they surged in the second period, outshooting & outscoring the Brewers. The first came at 11:10 when Ryan "THE GOVENATOR" McGovern let a blast go from the point, perfectly low & aimed for a Mantin tip through Petey "Liver Lips" Bartline's big gaping and echoing 5-hole of death. The Brewers bounced back with 8:00 to play in the 2nd as Billy "The Kid" Fletcher found McCabe knocking at Fitzgerald's wide open back door. McCabe didn't even ask to enter, but just came, to put the Brewers up 5-2. Mantin got his 2nd of the night with 5:43 to go in the period as he picked up a loose puck from a scramble in front of the net where a sprawling Bartline couldn't corale the puck. The Brewers were missling "The Fonz" Alfonse Sorrentino tonight which definitely hurt their play, leaving Chris Johnson as the oldest man in the northeast that cold January night. Tuck continued to press, but Bartline was solid, stopping McKay on a breakaway and a 14 MPH slapshot from "Muscles" Mantin to close out the second period.

END OF THE SECOND: Brewers 5 Tuck 2

The 3rd period was pretty slow to start, as there was a good flow, just not much to report as there wasn't a penalty, goal or even a strip tease at center ice. Christian Isaac did finally do something noteworthy for the period as he took a beautiful pass in the slot from Brian Smith pass that he redirected so elegantly through Fitzgerald's 5-holio to put the Brewers up by 4 goals, 6-2. Tuck started to ramp up their engines and started tilting the ice towards the Brewers end, as Mantin rang the post through a screen at the 5 minute mark. Fitzgerald made 2 spectacular saves to keep his team in the game on a Poirier slapper, then had to dive across to save the rebound. Tuck turned that huge save up ice with an odd man rush where Mantin found Takashi "Mitsubishi" Mikoshiba all alone in front. Mikoshiba ROOFED the biscuit over an outstretched Peter "The Meat Beater" Bartline to bring the score back within 3 at 6-3. Tuck really started working hard and with heart as they could smell the fear & exhaustion escaping from the Brewers squad and pounced on a rebound less than a minute later, 2:20, when Mike "Nair" Adair fired the loose puck into an open net. "With under two minutes to go Fitzgerald DENIED Christian Isaac TWICE in 8 seconds on big slappers" as McDermott chuckled to himself and drooled buffalo juice out of his right cheek. Apparently that is where he stores his extra buffalo sauce, in his right cheek, which gives him extra power late in games. Tuck continued to press, but Bartline was on top of his game as he REJECTED ADAIR late in the game before Poirier killed the clock all by himself.
