Seven Tuck Skaters Force OT Shootout against Bruins

Tuck was ridiculously light on the bench. Again. Only 5 regular Tuckies were in front of Cote in the Tuck net, and they relied on two emergency Leaf subs to give them a break for some much needed O2. Thank God we weren't playing in the Mile High City or their blood oxygen saturation levels would have been critically low. The Bruins looked solid and were only missing two players from their now full and improved roster. The Dynamic Duo of Hunter and Turco led the way for Tuck, and even with a small supporting cast Tuck had this game well under control until fatigue set in once more. Michelle Labbe got it started early for Tuck at 14:17 from Burkart and Schegerin catching the Bruins off guard serving notice Tuck meant business even with a very short bench. The B's took consecutive minors at 7:49 and 7:06 when DeSchamp and ??? # 0 (there is no # 0 on the gamesheet for the Bruins - who was it?) went to the box, but the B's killed it off. Turco scored at 5:41 from Burkart to go up 2-0. Hunter added to the lead with a goal at 4:28 from Schegerin. Scott Bishop went to the B's box for tripping at 3:27, and the B's shut down Tuck's PP for the third and final time. The B's got on the board with 20.4 seconds left in the first on Mike Rooney's goal set up by Alec Jessiman. Tuck regained the 3-goal lead at 12:08 of the second on emergancy sub John Thomas' goal from Schegerin and Turco. Dan Clabough scored an unassisted goal for the B's at 6:15, but Tuck answered to keep the game under their control on Hunter's second at 5:30 assisted by Turco and Thomas. Tuck went up 6-2 at 4:27 after Turco scored an unassisted goal and the game looked out of reach for the Bruins. Derek DeYoung ended the period on a positive note for the B's with his goal from Rooney and Jessiman at 3:50. Fatigue set in for Tuck and their 2 subs, and the B's crawled back into this game slowly, but surely. At 13:18 Jessiman added a goal to his assists from Clabough. Then Steve Geiger cut the gap to 6-5 at 12:16 from Jessiman with his 3rd assist. Scott Fraser followed in his own rebound from the point and got the rebound to sneak past Cote to tie it up 6-6 with only 5:27 to go, and momentum clearly on the side of the Bruins. Tuck took their first and only penalty at 3:17 on Schegerin's bodychecking foul, and on the PP the Bruins went up 7-6 on Jay Smith's goal at 2:26 from none other than Jessiman with his 5th point of the night. Tuck battled back quickly and scored at 2:08 on Burkart's GTG from Labbe and Hunter after some hard work by Labbe in the corner to get the puck to the playmaker who fed Burkart for the slapper. The game headed to a shootout to determine the winner and who would get the extra point. (Okay, I seriously have carpal tunnel syndrome from all this frickin' typing! How about another 3-2 game, for fuck's sake?)

Shootout: The B's Geiger went first and scored on Cote with a nice backhander. Tuck's Labbe answered with a sweet shot over Hadley's glove to tie it at 1-1 in OT. The B's Jessiman was stopped by Cote, then Hadley shut down Burkart. Cote stoned Bishop on the B's third opportunity, and then Hadley forced Hunter to totally miss his attempt. Cote saved DeYoung's chance and left it up to Turco, who did not disappoint, and he beat Hadley on the low stick side for the extra point in Tuck's favor.
