'Lanche & Leafs Lock Horns (not lips) in Friday Scorefest on 10/13

Another 10+ goals from the new look Avalanche puts them at the top of the scoreshet and league leaders in points as they go 2-0 for the first time. Actually, I think it is the first time they didn't go 0-2 in three seasons. Unfortunately, it leaves their opponent winless in two starts and Leaf goaltender Ken Lallier seeing pucks in his dreams. Kenny now has Restless Leg Syndrome, whose therapy includes ridiculously long and arduous mountain bike rides while wearing a thong and a beer helmet, and has been placed on the injured reserve (for the weekend at least). Early in the game Avs center Nick Bayley cought the Leafs napping with an unassisted goal only 27 seconds in. At 12:33 Dave 'Boots" Bouthillier went to the Leaf box for interference, but the Leafs killed it off. Fred Redden, as usual, kicked the tires and lit the fires to answer with an unassisted effort of his own (that I actually believe) at 9:42 to tie it at 1-1. Veteran Av forward Al Sorrentino caught a lucky bounce for an unassisted goal after a Leaf player put the puck into their own net at 7:47. The fourth "unassisted" goal in a row (c'mon Tony & Carl, what are the chances...we want stats!) went to shifty playmaker Todd Nalette, who is admittedly not known for his forechecking or backchecking, at 5:04 to tie the game yet again at 2-2. Jason Loomis found himself in the box at 3:42 for tripping an Avs player, but the Av PP was shortlived as Christian Isaac was nabbed for high sticking at 3:12. Bayley scored with more ice to dipsy-doodle abooot (that's canadian for about, eh) at 4-on-4 assisted by D-man Tom Fallon. In the waning seconds of the eventual Avs PK, speedy Chris Johnson scored at 1:47 shorthanded to put the Avs up 4-2 to end the first assisted by Hank Bouchard and Big D Dan Charette. Isaac scored an unassisted goal only 21 seconds into the second period (do you detect a theme, Leafs?) to make it an unmanageable 3 goal lead for the Avs. There ws a little frustration and Isaac scored his second penalty of the game at 14:05 for slashing that was a matching minor with Leaf D, his senior colleague, Dr. Ed "How does that make you feel about your mother" Sheehan. Jeez, if only we could get the frickin' lawyers to hack and kill each other off instead of the doctors then we'd be getting somewhere! Out of the box Isaac scored his second in a row at 7:48 from Bayley and Charette. Hank Bouchard went in for tripping a Leaf at 4:47, and at 3:44 Sheehan went back to the box for hooking (and felt bad about HIS mother, for what I don't know - Catholic guilt probably...) but neither team capitalized on the PP. With a player on each team on the verge of game ejection with their 3rd minor (the ornery doctors) things settled down, and there were only entries in the scorer's columns after that. Bayley completed the Hat Trick at 1:36 from Bouchard, and then with 0:03 seconds left Redden got his second of the game for the Leafs with a close in slapper that found a hole through Bartline's pads to leave the score at 7-3 entering the third. Bayley made it 4 goals at 11:18 from hardworking defensive veteran Jay Campion and Isaac. Johnson got his second at 10:37 from Coe and Charette. Now, pay attention. Coe and Johnson then set up Al Sorrentino for a legit marker at 7:09. Coe and Sorrentino helped Johnson get the Hatty at 4:35. Coe then connected with Mike Hickey to give Fallon his first goal of the game at 3:06. All of this led to Travis "Babyface" Coe to earn 4 assists on consecutive Avalanche goals all within 7:01 of the third period. Talk about a game-breaker playmaker! (Nice job, Trav). Nalette added a goal for pride, his second of the game, with 54 seconds left from Boots and Casavant.
