Leafs win! Leafs win!

Holy shit! It couldn't have happened to a better group of players. The new and improved 2006 Mud League Leafs showed up with all cylinders firing and spanked and dominated the "Nordiques" (this team isn't even deserving of the same name as the 2005-06 Whalen Cup Champs) on opening night of the UVHL's Spring version of Mud League. Right from the beginning of the game the Leafs took it to the Nords, and it was a fast-paced and competitive game for the entire 45 minutes, except the Nords couldn't frickin' score. Veteran Leaf goaltender Ken Lallier continued his inspirational and stellar play this season and was finally rewarded with goal support and team defense en route to a 4-1 win and a 1.00 GAA. Kelly Park even moved up to forward and did NOTHING, and Lallier did the "Kelly" several times stoning the Nords playmaker and sniper on several occasions on his attempts to repeat his one of his signature moves entitled "The Kenny" against his Sunday Night nemesis. However, early in the game an unknown Leaf on the game sheet listed as #44 scored a goal that barely trickled past JT (we have no #44 refs!!! Someone PLEASE e-mail me with the correct scorer! Was it #4 Dave Riley? #14 Kyle Manny? #24 Alec Jessiman? Let me know, eh!) at 12:53 from sparkplug Fred Redden to serve notice the Leafs were for real. Even without captain and team inspiration Sean Casavant on the bench for the Leafs they were fired up for this one. UVHL newcomer Mike Wagner scored his first UVHL goal at 7:05 from the speedy Justin Wing and hardworking Doug Heavisides. Lallier turned away all Nords chances through the first and second periods, and the latest version of the "Nords" was having chemistry problems getting used to new teammates and had an impotent attack. UVHL newcomers Mike Wagner & John Thomas on the Leafs, and the Leafs have added Ed Sheehan, Alec Jessiman, Don Powers, Scott Leger and Dave Bouthillier to their Mud League line-up. Ben Crapser, Matt Authier, and Dan Ammel made their UVHL debuts for the Nords this evening. "Twisted Steel" Greg Hadley, the Bruins' goaltender and captain, also made his debut out of the crease on the blueline for the Nords. Also new to the Nords lineup were Seth Warren, Al Sorrentino, Kevin Calder, and Drew Crapser to go along with original Nords John Turner in net, Kelly Park, Greg Marsh, Tom Dakai, Shawn McDermott, Dave Willis, and Nords D/F Mike O'Neil from the taxi squad. The Leafs changed the momentum for good with 3:47 to go in the second on John Thomas' first UVHL goal from Doug Heavisides and Kirt Johnson to make it 3-0. At 12:28 of the third Dan Ammel was called for slashing and went to the box to put the Leafs on the PP. Fred Redden wasted no time tipping in Alec Jessiman's point shot 12 seconds later at 12:06 after Jessiman reached up and blocked the Nords' clearing attempt, gained control and sent it towards the Nords net. Things looked bleak for the Nords, and they were playing for pride now with time clearly on the side of the Leafs, but the Nords did manage a better third period with more quality scoring chances that forced Lallier to earn his 1.00 GAA after the shutout was broken by Mike O'Neil at 10:16 from Greg Marsh and Kelly Park after some nice work down low by Marsh who found O'Neil's stick open in front for the only Nords goal and only highlight of the game for the new and "de-proved" Nords.
