Storm Kings advance to Whalen Cup Final 6-2 over Tuck

With only 8 players the Storm Kings defeated Tuck 6-2 on the strength of the UVHL's 05-06 Scoring Leader Sean Coakley's 4 goals. Tuck scored first at 13:28 when the hardworking Pat Fox found the net from Drew Crapser. Alek Roomet went to the box for Tuck at 12:32 for tripping, but Tuck killed it off. Coakley answered at 9:26 with his first goal to tie it up from veterans Nick O'Brien and Marty White. Soon after Singe Arnold scored an unassisted goal at 8:48 to put the Kingers up 2-1. In the second it was Coakley with his second goal, unassisted, at 11:09 to make it 3-1. Tuck's Matt Waterbury went to the box for high sticking at 10:44 on his first of three penalties of the period, and Coakley scored again at 10:26 from Marty White and the score was 4-1 in favor of the Storm Kings. Offsetting minors went to Tuck's Gary Hunter and the King's Singe Arnold for tripping at 8:05. Waterbury went for roughing along with the King's John Murphy at 7:50, but unfortunately Waterbury picked up an extra 2 minutes for unsportsmanlike and found himself in the locker room after being ejected for his third penalty of the game. On the ensuing PP the Kingers' defenseman Stu Close fed Coakley for his fourth goal of the game at 7:00, and twice Waterbury's infractions proved costly for Tuck. Tom Scull picked up an interference minor for the Kings at 4:36 of the second, but Tuck could not convert and Frenchy looked good in the Kings net. Tuck's D Tim Weld was given a roughing minor at 13:41 of the third, but it was negated by Murf's second minor of the game at 13:31 during the Kings PP. At 4-on-4 the Kingers received a minor for tripping, this time to Stu Close at 12:49, and Tuck converted on the PP at 11:44 to make the score 5-2 with plenty of time left on a goal by Mark Hanrahan from Alek Roomet. However, with the loss of the tenacious Waterbury Tuck just could not outskate or wear down the short bench of the Kingers who seemed to taste their first Whalen Cup Final berth, and a late game penalty to Pat Fox at 7:39 for roughing cut into their late game comeback possibilities. The Tuckies pulled Meg Becker from the net and Tom Scull found the open net with 1:15 to go from the high slot to end it at 6-2.
