In the first game of the night we have the battle for 3rd and 4th place. The Whalers are currently sitting in 3rd place and the Gamblers are sitting in 4th place. If the Gamblers win the standings would be tied and it would come down to the final game of the season for both teams to see where they end up in the standings. This year the Whalers have taken 2 out of 3 from the Gamblers but all the games have been decided by one goal. Look for tonight's game to be no different. The edge goes to the Whalers as they have been the better team all year, Whalers win 4-3.

In the first game of the night we had the Whalers hosting the Gamblers.  The Whalers wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as the Gamblers came out flat, Chuck Gaede put the Whalers up 1-0 just 34 seconds into the game.  The Whalers would then go up 2-0 on an own goal by the Gamblers, credited to Pete Scaila at 10:37.  With a quick 2-0 lead the Gamblers clawed their way back into this game as they would get a goal from Don Chute at 8:31 to make the score 2-1.  The Gamblers would then tie the game up at 2-2 on a goal from Will Meyer at 7:12 mark.  The period would come to an end in a 2-2 tie, but the Gamblers outshot the Whalers 20-10 in the first period. 

In second period the Gamblers would continue to pressure the Whale hard and it was Will Meyer getting his second of the night at 10:59 to give the Gamblers their first lead of the night 3-2.   The Gamblers would continue the momentum and notch two more goals the first from Topo LaCroix 9:27, and second from Don Chute shorthanded (his second of the night) at 8:21 to give the Gamblers a 5-2 lead.  The Whalers wouldn't give up and would get a goal back before the period was over, Dan Fenton would make it 5-3 with 3:04 remaining in the period. The period would end with the score 5-3 Gamblers and the shots were 19-11 in favor of the Gamblers again. 

In the third the Gamblers kept pressing hard to get the games next goal, but Tucker was making stop after stop. The Whalers would make the score 5-4 late in the period on another goal from Dan Fenton with 4:58 remaining.   The Whalers would then continue to go on a tie the game up just 24 seconds later off a pretty tic tac toe play ending with Ryan Longfield burying the puck in the back of the net making the score 5-5 with 4:34 remaining.  Both teams would press for the go-ahead goal but neither could find the back of the net in regulation, so we were heading to a shot out.  

In the Shootout the Whalers would come out on top was they would score 2 goals to the Gamblers 1, giving the Whalers a Shootout victory and increasing their chances for being the 2nd seed in the playoffs with one game remaining.
