Gamblers & Lumberjacks : Round 1

Historically the Blers & Jacks have been evenly matched with the Gamblers taking the all-time career series lead with an 11-10 record against the Jacks.  With that being said, the Lumberjacks owned the Gamblers last year taking 3 of 4 games and outscoring their opponent 17-10.  

So far this season the Gamblers(2-1-0) have been the stronger team.  The Lumberjacks(1-2-1) have struggled to field a full squad each week, including the absense of their starting goaltender Ryan "The Liberator" Libby.  The Gambler's netminder, Ryan "Van Winkle" Van Schoik is out with a lower body injury suffered in the bedroom, leaving the Gamblers desperate and looking to the minor leagues to fill the hole....that big hole.

The Jacks have only potted 10 goals in 4 games this year, but their fearless leader Jordy "McBreakaway" McGee has figured in on 7 of those goals, leaving the Jacks desperate for secondary scoring.  The Gamblers are depositing 4 goals per game behind a well ballanced scoring attack.  Five players from the Gamblers are scoring at least a point per game behind 4 points by the LaCroix Brothers, Max Woods & Trvis Poublon.  Willy Meyer has also contributed 2 points in 2 games.

This one should be a good one as both teams are trying to get their legs under them early this season.

In the first game of the night we had a battle between the Gamblers (2-1) vs the Lumberjacks (1-2-1). The game started out fast as both teams had "sub" goalies in net. The Gamblers had Jason Grambling in net and the Jacks had Pat Dodds. It was the Gamblers who would get on the board first as Alex Dodds would find the back of the net first on his brother Pat at 13:50. The Gamblers would get the next two goals, the second goal was scored by Travis Poublon (10:55) and the third was scored by Ryan Bergeron (6:14). While the Gamblers had a 3-0 led the Jacks Tim Patten would score on a power play chance at 4:35 to make the score 3-1 Gamblers. The Jacks would then add another goal this time from Jordan McGee at 3:37. With the score 3-2 it was the Gamblers getting a late goal from Ryan LaCriox to put them up 4-2 heading into the second period.

In the second period the Jacks would get an early PP chance and they would cash in once again, this time it was Gary Laperle at 13:25. The Jacks would then tie the game at 4-4 on a goal from Jake Robinson at 11:30. The game would only be tied less then a minute as the Gamblers Ryan LaCroix would put his team up 5-4 at 10:39. The Gamblers would hang on to the led until 3:45 when the Jacks Jordan McGee would tie the game up at 5-5. The period would come to an end with the score tie 5-5 heading into the third.

In the third the Jacks would come out buzzing after tying the game and go up 6-5 on a goal from Alex Boccolucci. The Jacks would keep the lead for half of the period and then the Gamblers Will Meyer was able to tie it at 6:22 on a goal that he banked the puck off the goalies leg pad from behind the net. Then on the next faceoff the Gamblers would win it back to the defense, the D then would move it forward for Will Meyer to pick up off the boards and go take a shot on Pat Dodds which would sneak by him to put the Gamblers up 7-6 (Meyer's goals were scored 5 seconds a part). The Gamblers would hang on to the lead and then would grab an insurance goal from Luke Webster with 2:31 left which would seal the win for the Gamblers by the score of 8-6.
