In the first game of the night we had the Gamblers hosting the Whalers. Both teams came into tonight off losses last week, the Gamblers looked to get back on track while the Whalers looked to get their first win of the season. The game started out with the Gamblers coming out hungry and drawing a penalty 30 seconds into the game. On the Power Play the Gamblers Will Meyer would take a shot from the boards, get the rebound and put it past the Whalers Kenny Lallier to make the score 1-0. The Whalers would strike back two minutes later on a goal from Ben Rouillard to tie the score at 1-1. The Whalers would keep their foot on the gas pedal as Ryan Quinn would put the Whalers up 2-1 at the 8:30 mark. Whalers would score again just 45 seconds later this time from Dillan Pierce to put the Whalers up 3-1 with 7:47 remaining in the period. The Gamblers looked flustered after getting up three quick goals but they would fight back and draw two penalties in the last two minutes of play. While on the power play the Gamblers would capitalize again as they would get a goal from Christian Machelski with 7 seconds left in the period to make the score 3-2 heading into the second period of play.
In the second period the Gamblers kept the momentum going off their late goal but they were not able to get a quick goal in the first couple of minutes instead they got a penalty. Although the Gamblers killed off the penalty it was shortly after the penalty expired that the Whalers would go up 4-2 on Dillian Pierce's second goal of the night at the 6:33 mark. The Whalers would score again just like they scored two quick goals in the first period as Chuck Watters put them up 5-2 with 5:54 remaining. With the Whalers extending their lead by three goals it was the Gamblers who finally woke up and Travis Poublon would net the games next goal to make the score 5-3 with 5:33 remaining. The Gamblers would take a penalty with a little less than four minutes remaining but once they killed off the penalty they would score with .7 on the clock on a goal from Dave Sutton to pull the Gamblers with in one heading into the third (Whalers 5- Gamblers -4).
In the third the Gamblers came out full speed ahead as they pushed for the games next goal, the would finally get the tying goal from Zach Aher with a twisted wrister from the point that beat Lallier through a chaos in front of his net to make the score 5-5 with 12:38 remaining. Shortly after the goal the Gamblers again would take a penalty but they would kill it off. As soon as the play returned the Whalers would gain some momentum and eventually go up 6-5 on Dillan Pierce's third goal of the night. Although the Whalers would go on to win the game by the score of 6-5 both teams had some changes and the Gamblers made a really hard push in the final minutes but they couldn't get another goal as the Whalers would win their first game of the season!
