In the first game of the 2016-17 season we have a rematch of the finals from last year, the Blues hosting the Gamblers. The Gamblers are looking to defend their title from last year while the Blues are looking for revenge after losing in a shoot out. This game will be just like any other game between these two teams, hard fought and decided by one goal. The Gamblers will win this one 3-2.

To start the season out we had a rematch of the finals from last year with the Blues hosting last year"s champs the Gamblers. The Blues come back with the same powerful roster they had last year and the Gamblers come back with a good core of last years team but also picked up 8 new players. The game started out slow as each team was adjusting to being back on the ice after 6 months off. Half way through the period the pace started to pick up and the Gamblers were able to get on the scoreboard first with Goose LaCroix netting his first goal of the season with 5:48 left in the period. The Gamblers would keep the pressure on and Goose would get his second goal of the night at 3:20 mark to put the Gamblers up 2-0. The period would end with the score 2-0 Gamblers but both goalies were tested often as the Gamblers Ryan Van Schoick finished the period with 16 saves and the Blues Jay Seals would finish with 13 saves.

In the second period the Blues came out hungry after the intermission and would cut the Gamblers lead to one, when Eric Mack netted his first ever UVHL goal at 13:20 mark to make the score 2-1. The Blues weren"t done their as they would keep the pressure on to tie the score at two with 10:52 on a tip in goal from Brian Smith. The period would end with the score tied 2-2 however the Blues were starting to look like the top team they were last year and firing on all cylinders.

In the third period the Blues kept their foot on the gas pedal as the Gamblers were starting to show they had 7 new players on their roster and the inexperience of playing together was starting to show. The Blues TJ Moran would make the score 3-2 at the 10:33 mark in the period. Less than two minutes later the Blues would go up 4-2 on a goal from Garren Poirer. At this point the Blues were on a roll and they would score two more goals in less than two minutes both by Tyler White to put the Blues up 6-2. TJ Moran would add an insurance goal at 2:28 to give the Blues a 7-2 win.
