Gamblers Early Goals Send them to the Whalen Cup

The Second seeded Gamblers face off against the third seeded Tuck team in the second game of the day. This one was ugly, physical and nasty. Clearly some people have forgotten that this is Men's league and that there are no scouts in the stands. These two teams combined for 60 PIMs on 14 penalties, including 3 ejections...and there probably should have been twice as many penalties.

The Gamblers put this one out of reach early on behind a trio of goals in the first 9 minutes. They added a 4th goal in the second and sat on the lead in the third. Due to the insane number of penalties...the game was running 20 minutes behind at the halfway mark and the third period was cut from 15 minutes to 7.5 minutes and running time.

The first goal was scored just over 2 minutes into the game when Ryan "Patrice" Bergeron forced a turnover behind his net and moved the puck to Ethan Gage at the red line. Gage cuts into slot and it fired a snap shot that looked like it went in, but the refs were out of position and the puck came back out to him where he put the puck past a diving Kremer.

Two hand a half minutes later the LaCroix brothers did what they do...that freakish twin telepathy bullshit that makes other people look ridiculous. It started with a turnover at the blueline by a Tuckie Defensman, Topo LaCroix steals the puck and hits his twin brother, Goose LaCroix, storming down the far boards. Goose takes the puck around a diving defenseman to the goal line and passes back through the crease to Toppo for the beautiful goal. It was ridiculous...great patience by Goose, great timing by Topo.

With just over 6 minutes to play in the first, Max Woods went with the circus move as he put the puck between his own legs running parallel to the blue line to beat a defender before dishing to Gramling streaking down the far side. Gramling beat Kremer with a quick shot glove side and the rout was on.

END OF THE FIRST: Gamblers 3, Tuck 0. SHOTS: Gamblers 13, Tuck 5

The G-Men killed off a 5 on 3 in the 2nd to maintain their lead. Bergeron put his team up 4-0 when his point shot deflected off a Tuck player and in with 7:27 to play in the middle frame and that is when things got ugly. On the next shift Tuck's Mark Rautiola was given a Major and a Game for hitting one of the LaCroix brothers from behind. That lead to a melee in the corner that saw the Gambler's Dan "The Danimal" Ammel and Tuck's Conrad Trimbath both ejected for "roughing." There could have been 5 more penalties called in that exchange.

It took about 15 minutes to sort it all out and the remainder of the period was more or less uneventful.

END OF THE SECOND: Gamblers 4, Tuck 0. SHOTS: Gamblers 27, Tuck 13

The third period was cut short due to the amount of time lost due to penalties and figuring it all out. Other than three penalties, including matching roughing calls, the period flew by with the Gamblers outshooting Tuck 6-2 in the final frame.

END OF REGULATION: Gamblers 4, Tuck 0. SHOTS: Gamblers 33, Tuck 15

THIRD PERIOD: Because of all the shenanigans we had to run the 3rd period at runninng time and only 7:30 minutes instead of 15 minute period.
