Labatt Blue continues dominance with 5-4 shootout win over Tuck
An epic battle between the top 2 teams in the UVHL this season ended in a shootout. The only problem was that Tuck was missing half of their team due to the holiday break.
Regardless of the rosters, Labatt Blue moved to 6-0-1 on the season behind a solid night from Justin "Juice" Lawrence. Juice potted a pair of goals plus the shootout winner.
Filling in net for the Tuckies was the Lumberjack's Chris Pelkey. Pelkey turned away 25 shots while the Tuck team still carried play, forcing Matt Albertazzi to make 33.
Justin Lawrence opened the scoring just 23 seconds into the game, taking a Geoff Noble pass and putting it past Pelkey. Tuck battled back with a pair of goals half-way through the period on goals by Michael Boches and Connor Trimbath. Johnny Mathias assisted on both goals. Labatt Blue wasn't about to go down without a fight and TJ Moran tied the game with 2:49 to go in the first frame.
There was only one goal scored in the second period and it was Juice's second of the game.
Tuck opened the scoring on the first shift of the third period, tying the game on a Chris Pericak goal. Andrew Cox gave them the lead with just 1:56 to play and it looked like the Blues were going to be knocked off their pedestal.
The Blues put the pressure on and tied the game with 1 minute left when Pelkey made a save but slid out of the net and Geoff Noble hammered home the tying goal.
Both Juice & Timmy Barrett scored for the Blues in the shootou. All 3 of Tuck's shooters couldn't put one past Albertazzi. Great game.
