The Lumberjacks came into this game with a 1-1 record and looking to get a win streak going. The Whalers are 0-2 and looking for their first win of the season. The game started with both teams getting opportunities but neither wanting to make a mistake. Although the Jacks had more chances in the first ten minutes the Whalers struck first at the 4:56 mark of the period. Tommy Crapser buried the puck back door off of a nice set of passes from Dillan Pierce and Mike Avery. It didn"t take the Jacks long to answer back with a goal just 33 seconds later from Colby LaPerle beating Kenny Lallier short side high blocker side. The Whalers continued to pressure late in the period but they couldn"t get one by Zach Lary with the period ending 1-1.

The second period started with the Jacks coming out faster than they had in the first and peppering Lallier. However the Whalers were the ones getting the go ahead goal at 11:36 from James Kerrigan who buried the puck past Lary high glove side after he got a nice pass from Woody Redpath out of the corner. The Jacks answered back but this time it took them a bit longer, Sean Murphy got the tying goal at 7:44 from Jordy McGee. With the game tied both teams had even chances but neither could capitalize with the second period ending 2-2.

The third period saw the Jacks come out fast and scoring the go ahead goal just 10 seconds into the period from Colby LaPerle on wrap around goal. The Jacks continued to pressure the Whalers who were showing signs of fatigue as they only had two lines. Christian Henault put the Jacks up at 4-2 at the 8:48 mark of the period as he beat Lallier short side low glove side. The Whalers dug deep and continued to get chances and with five minutes left they had a goal called back as the referees said the puck was covered. With the Whalers pressuring the Jacks started to take penalties which have cost them the game in the past. The Jacks ended up taking two penalties within a minute of each other giving the Whalers a 5-3 on power play with about 4 minutes to go. The moved the puck well on the 5-3 but Lary came up huge making a diving stick save (Tim Thomas like) robbing Scotty Shaw on the back door. The Jacks held on and got an empty net goal winning the game 5-3.
