Whalers Look to Avoid Another Loss to The River
ODDS: | Dead River By 1 |
OVER/UNDER: | 7 Goals |
Dead River has only won two games this season and both of them have been against the Whalers. The first win came back on January 28th in a 2-1 shocker followed by a 7-4 thumping last week.
Dead River is all hustle, all heart and no quit and the Whalers seemed to be taken aback a bit by their relentless attack. Not the most skilled team, but definitely the hardest working team.
Leading the way was Jamie "Han" Solon with a pair of goals and a trio of assists. Loren "The Leper" Lunt recorded his first hat trick in his UVHL career and the old timer Terrence "The Teapot" Moran threw 2 goals past goaltender Kenny Lallier.
Will Dead River thump the Whale again? I don't think so. This one should be a bit closer, say 4-3 win.
Whalers TOTALLY Redeem Themselves. Beat Dead River 6-3
The Whalers moved within a point to the 3rd place Nordiques tonight with a 6-3 win over Dead River. Dead River was a 1 goal favorite in this one based on their previous two wins over the Whalers, but the Whale came prepared for this battle.
Some of the highlights from tonight....Gary "Gretzky" Laperle had the goal of his life in the first period. James "Han" Solon factored into all three of Dead River's goals. Kenny "LOL" Lallier had his best game of the season(30 saves) & both Jay "The Zamboni" Zanleoni and Dillan "Fierce" Pierce had a pair of goals and a helper in the win.
"Their goalie played REALLY well" was a comment from Dead River's Mark "The Shark" Weglarz after the game. Lallier stopped 30 of 33 in the win and was a wall. Lallier's counterpart Matty "Tazzy" Albertazzi didn't have as much success, letting up 5 on 20 shots(plus an empty netter, but that's not really his fault).
The first period was a bit of the wild west as 5 of the 9 goals were scored. Dead River opened the scoring just over 5 minutes in, but the ensuing faceoff resulted in a turnover and Whaler goal by The Zamboni 11 seconds later. The Whalers converted another two chances before the period closed, the first on Gary Laperle's magician like move described below and a Dillan Pierce rebound goal. Defenseman Trevor "The Bully" Billings made it 3-2 to close out the scoring in the first.
Solon tied the game up early in the second and Dead River carried a good portion of the play during the second. Dead River's Greg "Twisted Stool" Hadley was the worst player on the ice...just sayin'. Scotty "Sugar" Shaw scored the eventual game winner late in the second.
A pair of goals in the 3rd sealed the deal for the Whalers.
