Dead River Looks Harpoon The Whale For First Win

ODDS:	Whalers By 2 Goals
OVER/UNDER:	10 Goals

It's been a rough start of the season for the Dead Riverians, having gone 0-10-0 this season while giving up 67 goals in that period and only scoring 20. They possibly had their best two periods of this young season last week when they headed into the third period down 5-4 against the top ranked Gamblers(8-1-0). They proceeded to fill their penalty box in the third period allowing 4 powerplay goals and losing 9-4.

The Whalers are coming off of a BYE week where their old bodies benefitted from the added rest. Their last game was a heartbreaking 6-5 loss to the Gamblers where they played extremely but let up a late goal for the loss.

Don't let the Whaler's 3-6-0 record fool you. Four of their six losses were delivered by the 9-1-0 Gamblers. Their other two came from Tuck and the Nordiques.

The Whalers are solid, but Dead River looked like a hockey team for the first time in a long time, albeit for 40 minutes, not a full 60.

This should be a 6-4 win for the Whalers.

Dead River Shocks Whalers for First Win.

The Dead Riverians did the unthinkable tonight...they won a game. HOLY FUCKING SHIT. THEY WON A GAME. They will not go through the regular season 0-18-0. Not only did they win a game, but they stifled a good offensive team in the Whalers.

This was an interesting game as only 3 goals were scored on under 50 shots. All 3 goals came in a 3 and a half minute span with a power play goal being the difference.

The Whalers only managed to register 25 shots on goal but still outshot the Dead Riverians by 2 shots. The first goal of the game wasn't registered until over 23 minutes in when Jamie "Han" Solon fed Loren "The Leper" Lunt in the far corner who curled and found Justin Lawrence all alone in the slot. Lawrence turned and fired a quick shot 5-hole on the Whaler's rookie goaltender Zach Lary who was filling in for the veteran Kenny "Arthritis" Lallier.

The Whalers finally got on the board on the next shift with their own Dillon "Fierce" Pierce in the box for a high stick. Dead River's goaltender Matt "Tazzy" Albertazzi came out of his net to play the puck and make a long pass up to his wingers but ended up drilling his defenseman in the back. The puck landed on the stick of the Whaler's Woody Redpath who fed Jimmy Kerrigan all alone for the open netter. That was the only mistake Albertazzi made on the night.

On the next shift, while on the still on the power play, James Solong curled out high with 2 Whalers on him and fired a 64 foot dump-in/shot from the blue line, right along the ice and inside the post on a stunned Zach Lary who may have been screened or sleeping at the wheel. That goal ended up being the game winner.

Dead River went into defensive mode in the third period as they were almost doubled up in shots 11-6. The Whalers pressed, but weren't able to get one past Albertazzi and went home hanging their heads.
