David vs Goliath round 2
ODDS: | Gamblers By 11 Goals |
OVER/UNDER: | 13 Goals |
The last time Dead River faced off against the Gamblers they were throttled 12-3. Letting up 12 goals is clearly a low point, but scoring 3 against a solid defensive team is a high point. Only Tuck has scored more goals against the Gamblers, but by forcing offense Dead River clearly gave up on defense. Hopefully things will change this time around.
The Gamblers will be without two of their stars as Willy "Weeble" Meyer is still out with post-concussion syndrome and their leading scorer this season, Matty "The Milkman" Marrazzo(5g, 7a in 5gp) is out with a back injury. Luckily the Gamblers are still loaded up front and should still put away at least a dozen goals behind Dan "The Danimal" Ammel(8-4-12), Topo "Thing 1" LaCroix(7-5-12), Marc "The Narc" Gattie(3-7-10) and others.
Dead River has yet to win a game this season being outscored by 30 goals(11 GF & 41 GA). TJ "The Menace" Moran leads the way with 7 pts followed by Keith "Bubba" Lacarczyk and his 5 goals and one helper...solid passing Bubba. Loren "The Leper" Lunt finally got on the board last week with his first goal of the season against the Nordiques.
Vegas says that the Dead Riverians will be defensive driftwood in this one, leaving their goaltender Matty "Tazzy" Albertazzi out to dry...12-1.
Dead River Plays Tough in 4-2 Loss to Gamblers
With the Gamblers favored by 11 goals, Dead River seemed to take exception and brought their "A" game to the rink tonight. DR surprised everyone with one of their best games in years against a high powered offense.
The Gamblers did generate 53 shots in this one and Dead River's Matty "Tazzy" Albertazzi was superb with 49 saves. Tazzy kept his team in this game from the first shift stopping the LaCroix brothers on a backdoor pass. Despite giving up a ridiculous amount of shots, Dead River did still manage to put up 33 of their own and tested Ryan "Van Stopper" Van Schoik who earned the second star in this one.
First star was Ryan "Thing 2" LaCroix with a pair of goals including the game winner, but both goals were set up by his brother Topo "Thing 1" LaCroix. Van Schoik was excellent and took home the 2nd star and Dead River defenseman, Geoff Noble, scored both of his teams goals and was outstanding on the blue line. Albertazzi could have easily taken home one of the top 3 stars but will settle for the unrecognized 4th star.
The game started with 2 goals generated from point shots. Dan "The Danimal" Ammel tipped in a Cody Dodds point shot at 11:44 only to see Geoff Noble's point shot find it's way through a screen 5-hole on Van Schoik only 21 seconds after that.
Thing 2 scored beautiful backdoor goal from his brother on a 2 on 1 with 2:40 to play, great pass, great finish. The crazy thing was that Dead River outshot the Gamblers in the first period.
END OF THE FIRST: Gamblers 2, Dead River 1. Van Schoik(GMB) 12 saves, Albertazzi(DR) 9 saves.
The tides shifted a little in the second with the Gamblers outshooting Dead River 22 to 10 and outscoring them 2-0. The first goal of the period came from Marc "The Narc" Gattie as he took a pass at the tops of the circles from The Danimal, cut between the defense and and made an awesome move across the the top of the crease and put it past Lallier who was down and out.
Noble made his only mistake of the game with 10:30 left in the second as he forced a pass up the middle and Thing 1 picked it off, fired a high slapper on Albertazzi that hit him in the shoulder. The rebound dropped just outside of the crease and his bro jammed it home for the 4-2 lead. Dead River hung tough and Albertazzi fought and battled for the rest of the period as he kept the Gamblers off the board.
END OF THE SECOND: Gamblers 4, Dead River 1. Van Schoik(GMB) 22 saves, Albertazzi(DR) 29 saves.
The third period saw the only 2 penalties of the game as "The Narc" Gattie went to the box for tripping at 6:40 and TJ "The Menace" Moran was sent to the sin-bin at 2:30 for roughing.
Dead River scored the only goal of the period at 10:13 behind a Moran to Noble point shot seeing-eye-puck that again found a hole between Van Schoik's legs. Albertazzi was once again called upon to make 20 saves to Van Schoik's 11 saves and the game ended much closer than anyone would have ever guessed. Great game played by Dead River. Their new addition in Justin Lawrence added some much needed speed and puck control.
END OF REGULATION: Gamblers 4, Dead River 2. Van Schoik(GMB) 33 saves, Albertazzi(DR) 49 saves.
