Thing 1 & 2 rack up 9 points in 12-3 Win Over Dead River

The Gamblers put on a goal scoring clinic on Tuesday night as they trounced Dead River 12-3. They put up 6 goals in the first period and continued to do what they do, keep their foot on the gas and score 6 more...securing their spot as the #1 most disliked team in the UVHL for their Kick 'Em While Their Down, Keep Your Foot On The Gas Mentality.

In the Gambler's defense, Dead River wasn't really helping out, as they clearly left the defensive hockey playbook at home. Leading the way for the Gamblers was the LaCroix twins who put up 5 goals and 4 assists between them. Ryan "Thing 2" LaCroix netted 4 goals and an assist while Topo "Thing 1" LaCroix tallied one goal and 3 assists. Matty "The Mailman" Marrazzo always delivers, tonight he delivered a hat trick and pair of helpers in the win.

The Gambler's goaltender Ryan VanSchiok was out of town on business and the Nord's Johnny "Temper Tantrum" Turner filled in nicely for the big man. Turner turned away 26 of 29 shots in the win and carried a shutout into the third period before some sloppy play allowed Dead River to get on the board. Turner's counterpart at the other end of the ice was Matt "Tazzy" Albertazzi who made some big saves but let in a few more than he'd like. The scorekeeper had Tazzy with 28 saves on 40 shots, but I would bet that he saw more than 50 shots on the night.

The Gamblers got on the board in the first 30 seconds of play on a Marrazzo to Dan "The Danimal" Ammel backdoor pass that Tazzy didn't even have a chance on. Thing 2 got his first of the night after his 3rd whack at a rebound that lay in the crease, it wasn't pretty but Dead River wasn't going to help out their goaltender and a goal is a goal. Marc "The Narc" Gattie netted his first of two on the night with a snipe on Tazzy from down low and it was 3-0 with only 4:42 played.

The Mailman scored a highlight reel goal as he stormed down the near boards, cut across the tops of the circles and between 3 Dead Riverians flipping the puck about 8 feet in the air and into the high slot before beating Tazzy high glove side for a 4-0 lead. Thing 2 netted a beautiful goal from his brother at 3:14 on a nice pass that found him all alone in the high slot. He walked in and threw a backhander 5-holio for a 5-0 lead. Marrazzo scored another unassisted goal with 1:53 to play and Dead River headed to the locker room down 6-0.

The second period was a bit more of the first but Dead River tightened their play a little bit only allowing 3 goals in the middle frame. Thing 2 scored sandwiched his 3rd & 4th goals around a Douglas "Lightweight" Heavysides goal for a 9-0 lead after 2 periods.

Dead River finally broke through on Turner just over 2 minutes into the third after TJ Moran took a pass from Patrick Keeley and blew a snapper past Turner from the high slot. The Gamblers proceeded to kill of a 5 on 3 mid-way through the period before Marc "The Narc" Gattie gave his team back that 9 goal lead. You know what they say, "In hockey, a 9 goal lead is the toughest to keep."

Dead River scored a second goal when Keith "Bubba" Lazarczyk finished a pass from Moran just 36 seconds after Gattie's goal. Thing 1 got his first of the night off the ensuing face-off to give his team back that 9 goal cushion before Ray "Spritely" Sprague beat Turner with a low wrister just 39 seconds after that one. It was a crazy 90 seconds that saw 4 goals. Marrazzo got his team back that ever important 9 goal lead with 1:59 left and the Gamblers ended the game on a penalty kill after Gary "Goontown" Smith took a pretty unnecessary roughing call up by 9 goals with only 29 seconds left in the game.

RECAP: The Gamblers were only slightly better than Dead River tonight.
