Tuck and Dead River Meet Again
ODDS: | Tuck By 6 Goals |
OVER/UNDER: | 8 Goals |
Due to the odd number of teams and Tuck's whacky schedule, Tuck & Dead River get to replay their rematch from last week. In last week's game Tuck's Mike "The Wall" Devine was perfect on all 14 shots he faced. Dead River ONLY PUT UP 14 shots.
Tuck used six different goal scorers in their 6-0 win...and Dead River used zero different goal scorers.
For Dead River to be successful, they're going to need to get more than the 14 shots they put up last week. They will need to get stellar goaltending from Albertazzi yet again, they will need to be better in their own zone and last but least...score some damn goals.
Tuck is clearly the better team and will prove that tonight with a solid win. They've got their first game under their belt and will most likely roll to a 6 goal win. Vegas says 7-1, but rumor around the Upper Valley is that this will be a 10-0 win...ouch.
We'll know in a couple hours!
Tuck Routes Dead River 7-1
Tuck continued their dominance over Dead River with their second straight 6 goal win over Dead River. Vegas predicted the outcome of this game perfectly, with a 7-1 win by Tuck. Pretty impressive if you ask me.
The last time these teams met, one week ago, Tuck outshot Dead River 54-14. This one was much closer as Dead River had 12 shots after the first period and ended up with 26 shots on net. Tuck put 32 on Dead River's Matt "Tazzy" Albertazzi who was excellent again but just didn't have enough in front of him to keep it close. Dead River played extremely well through the first 25 minutes of this game, keeping within a goal before Tuck put their game into a second gear and Dead River lost their legs.
Mike Devine gets the first star yet again for his 25 save, 1 goal performance followed by two UVHL rookies, John Dawson & Peter "The Fever" Lefeber, both had a pair of goals and a helper.
Tuck opened the scoring in the first 2 minutes when Eric "The Rat" Rautiola took a pass from Peter "Cougar" Mellen"camp" in the slot. Tazzy went for the two pad stack, but Ratty threw it upstairs for just 1:52 into the game.
Dead River kept firing puck after puck on net, hoping for a bounce and were outshooting Tuck 7-3 after 8 minutes. That lucky bounce came with 6:21 to play when Dan "Chubby Hubby" Charette let a low seeing-eye-puck from the point that found it's way past Devine and into the cage.
END OF THE FIRST: Tuck 1, Dead River 1
The early parts of the second period were turnover central for Dead River as they gave Tuck chance after chance but Albertazzi was there. A ill-advised cross zone pass from Dead River's corner was picked off by Dawson who did a quick spin-o-rama just inside the DR zone and fired a pass right onto Jed "Old" McDonald's stick at the far faceoff dot. McDonald took 2 strides and beat Tazzy 5-holio for the eventual game winner and the 2-1 lead.
Dead River cleaned up their end after that goal and started to pressure Tuck. Zach "open net" Dayno had an amazing chance as a TJ Moran shot from the far faceoff dot, squeeked through him and ended up on Dayno's stick at the top of the crease. Dayno made the safe play, slide it right along the ice into the middle of the ice at 8 MPH, but Devine had a different idea as he pulled a Dominik Hasek and corkscrewed his spine around snagging Dayno's shot...that one is going to haunt Dayno for years to come.
Tuck added 2 goals late in the second period as a Jeffrey "The Wasp" Wannop carried the puck behind the net and tried wrapping the puck. Tazzy was there but Brandon "The Harry One" Harrington crashed the net and put a shot on Tazzy. The save was made but "The Fever" Lefeber jammed home the rebound with 4:38 to play in the second frame. McDonald. Dawson got his second of the game after tipping home a McDonald point shot to close out the period and put Tuck up 4-1.
END OF THE SECOND: Tuck 4, Dead River 1
TJ Moran had a power play goal called back with 13:32 to play for goaltender interference, apparently that was Moran's 2nd goal called back in this game...I must have missed the first.
Tuck had to kill of two 2-man advantages for Dead River in the third period. During the first one they only managed 1 shot as Tuck's composure was greater than Dead River's offensive prowess.
Tazzy made an amazing 2 pad stack with 10:11 to play but his team was unable to regain control of the puck and 26 seconds later Wannop took a rebound in front of the net, did a 360 on top of the crease and tucked it under Tazzy...5-1.
Wannop had an NHL calibre pass with 5:37 to play as he found "The Fever" Lefeber on the backdoor to make it 6-1, followed by a Datsyukian type goal from Dawson 37 seconds later as McDonald fed him coming down the slot all alone. John "Datsyuk" Dawson faked to his forehand, goes to his backhand and threw the puck up and over Albertazzi for the 7-1 lead.
With 2:09 to play, Dead River's captain/manager made a coaching decision to rule all coaching decisions...he called a timeout. Yes, you heard that right, Hadley called a timeout with 2:09 to play in a Men's League Game........down 7-1. I'm not sure what he was trying to coordinate, but I hope he understood that the game was pretty much out of reach at that point.
END OF REGULATION: Tuck 7, Dead River 1
Dead River played much better than they did in the first game this year. They almost doubled their shots on goal, and kept this game really close for over half the game. Their downfall, no legs in the second half. The Wicked Smaaart kids from Tuck had legs and just continued to pound Dead River like a jock beating up a fat kid.
We really don't have a measuring stick right now, but you could assume that Tuck will be the team to beat this season and Dead River will be the team to....try to win at least one game.
Next week will be a very good measuring stick. The Nordiques, who were off with a BYE this week, will try to slow down Tuck after beating the Whalers 1-0 and Dead River will try to right their ship against the power-house Gamblers.
