Gamblers Advance To Whalen Cup Finals With 9-2 Win Over Dead River

Dead River shocked the Nordiques in Overtime last week to advance to the Semis against the Gamblers tonight. The Gamblers were hoping that their first round bye wouldn't leave them flatfooted and suffer an embarrassing loss like the Nordiques.

Dead River played a tough game early...mostly provided by the stellar netminding from Matty "The Eagle" Crowson who turned aside 48 of 57 shots in the loss. Crowson was FANTASTIC yet again, but the Gambler's relentless attack eventual wore down Crowson and his team.

The Gamblers rode Dan "The Danimal" Ammel's 4 point night to victory but it was Topo "Thing 1" LaCroix that got things started with 2 first period goals and an assist early in the second period. Dead River hung on as long as they could but it was only time before the Gamblers flexed their hockey muscles and opened the floodgates.

GMB 1-0 - Malcolm gets poke-checked at Dead River's blue line, she goes in the zone, puck comes in after her. She takes the defenseman to the boards and LaCroix walks in all alone, fore-hand to backhand deke for the goal

DR 1-1 - Trevor Bayliss gets the puck in his own zone and breaks up the near boards, toe-drags Rya "The Boogeyman' Bergeron but loses the puck in the high slot. Chris "Turtle" Johnson picks it up takes two strides to the near post and beats Van Schoik 5-holio from 10 feet out.

NOTE - 9:18 remaining in the 1st period and a faceoff to Crowson's left. The Gambler's win it back to Ammel who let's a wrister fly, hitting the crossbar and out of the rink.

NOTE - Gamblers dominating, outshooting Dead River 3 shots to 1

GMB - 2-1 - Another Facoff won by Malcolm, LaCroix gets a shot off from the hashmarks, the puck is deflected up into his mid-section and falls on his stick. LaCroix puts it up over Crowson's glove.

END OF THE FIRST

NOTE - Dead river comes out flying, outshooting Gamblers 3-0 in second.

GMB - 3-1 - Pass from corner to Goose in front for backdoor open netter

GMB - 4-1 - Point shot, save by Crowson, rebound righ to Ammel in slot and he beats Crowson blocker side

GMB - 5-1 - Nice pass from Marrazzo from behind net to ammel, beats Crowson off post blocker side.

NOTE - Crowson stops Goose on a breakaway with 6:04 to play.

NOTE - 4:15 left in second and Crowson stops Marrazzo twice, point blank, on the back door.

DR - 5-2 - Great pass from CJ to Koetsier busting near side to the net, Koetsier one-times the puck 5-hole.

GMB - 6-2 - Power Play, Backdoor to Marrazzo, far side on the goal line. Up and over Crowson who was sliding hard from post to post

NOTE - Van Schoik makes an AMAZING save on Chris Johnson with 7:18 to play as he was down and out after making the first 2 saves and diving across to make the glove save on CJ

GMB - 7-2 - Dead River defenseman makes an ill-advised pass up the middle of his own zone, picked off by LaCroix who throws a backhand on Crowson. Crowson makes the save but LaCroix gets his own rebound and throws it under the outstretched goaltender.

GMB - 8-2 - Malcolm cleans up some garbage in front off of a Gattie shot

GMB - 9-2 - Great play by Matty "The Milkman" Marrazzo as he battled in the high slot to get a loose puck and fed Ammel backdoor one-timer, upstairs. The Milkman ALWAYS delivers!

NOTE - The Gamblers scored their last 3 goals during Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger" was playing over the stereo system....Coincidence that they may be Survivor or Rocky fans....I think not.
