Tuck Outlasts Whalers Short Bench, 6-2

Another great game between Tuck and the Whalers saw 35 minutes of great hockey before the Whalers legs failed them and Tuck took over. A game with quite a bit of promise due to the Dartmouth Connection matchup of Tuck's Brandon "The Harry One" Harrington and the Whaler's "Jumbo" Joe Gaudet. Unfortunately the Whalers were missing Gaudet, who leads the league with 55 points this season. Sans-Gaudet the Whalers gameplan changed a bit and they shutout Harrington, which is very impressive, but couldn't quite muster enough offense.

The first half of the opening period was all Tuck as they carried play and took a 1-0 lead. The Whaler's Kenny "The Glove" Lallier made some huge saves to keep his team in it before a Mark "The Mountain" Devooght point shot found it's way through a screen and the back of the net. Devine was outstanding late in the first, being called upon to stop a breakaway and a handful of point blank shots.

The second period leveled a little and the Whalers started opening up the ice and putting pressure on Tuck's netminder, Mike "Wine & Dine" Devine. Devine was the first star and Player Of the Week nomination as he made 38 saves on 40 shots. Despite the Whaler's best efforts Devine was there and saw his team take a 2-0 lead on a great Josh "The Goalie" Gartner goal 6:07 into the second period.

Two quick tallies by the Whalers evened the score, the first was a great breakaway pass from Jay "The Zamboni" Zanleoni to Dan "Stone Hands" McGee. Devine made the save but McGee won the exchange. McGee returned the favor to Zanleoni setting him up for a nice goal with 5:20 to play.

The chess match continued for the next 11 minutes before Tuck's Max "The Punisher" Pinto went to the net and jammed home the eventual game winner. Sam Pond got an insurance goal that Lallier wished he had back since it was a 40 footer from the outside...great shot by Pond, but a save that Lallier should have made.

Wannop chipped in an empty netter and added another with 20 seconds to play for a third star nomination.

TCK - 1-0 - Point shot from Devought, seeing eye puck through a screen past Lallier stick side.

NOTE - With 1:32 left in the first, Devine is ON FIRE. He's stopped 2 or 3 point blank shots, one was a beaut of a glove save on Stinson.

NOTE - With 13:29 left in the second, Devine poke checks on a Redpath to Shaw to Stinson passing network that found Stinson all alone down low.

TCK - 2-0 - White finds Gartner off the far post, head fakes Lallier to over committing to the far post and walks back out front for the easy goal.

NOTE - WITH 6:22 TO PLAY DEVINE stops Shaw on a breakaway

NOTE - With 5:54 to play Shaw & Redpath work a give and go and give and go where Redpath just got the puck on the goal line and an empty net, but the angle was just too tough.

WHL - 2-1 - McGee gets a breakaway pass from Zanleon makes a move and shoots fivehole but Devine makes the save. The puck lands to the left of Devine and McGee, from no angle, bounces the puck off Devine and in.

WHL - 2-2 - McGee drop pass at the blue line, Zanleoni walks in, pump fakes, holds the puck and then rings the post. The hard shot rebounded right back onto his stick for an empty netter.

NOTE - Early in the third, Harrington strips the puck from Zanleoni on the far boards and walks to the front of the net with 2 Whalers draped all over him, he manages to fight them off and get a backhander off the post and out.

TCK - 3-2 - Give and go from Harrington to Pinto, Pinto jams home rebound
TCK - 4-2 - Pond down the far boards on his off wing, snipes Lallier with a snapper from the faceoff dot near side(blocker side) about half way up the net.
