Gamblers Rout Dead River 8-1

Dead River came into tonight's game as a seven goal underdog...and didn't disappoint, losing 8-1. It was a rough game for the Dead River squad, but not all was lost for DR, as they played a solid third period, despite allowing 8 goals in the first two frames.

The Gamblers have finally gotten their offensive train back on the tracks. Dan "The Danimal" Ammel was outstanding yet again, scoring 3 goals and adding an assist for the second game in a row. The LaCroix twins, better known as Thing 1 and Thing 2, were excellent yet again each added 3 points as well.

The highlight of the game was seeing the Gambler's Team Captain / Mom, Allison "Captain Hook" Malcolm back on the ice, throwing body checks and elbows and scoring her first goal of the season.

Things didn't start out well for Dead River as they were outshot 19-1 in the first period. Willy "Mighty Mouse" Meyer started the game out with a breakaway in the first 11 seconds and ending up with a 0-3 deficit. Some game notes:

NOTE: First shift Gamblers win the face-off, go D to D to Marrazzo who sets Meyer in on a breakaway, but the old man can't get his legs going and is easily caught by a Dead River defenseman.

GAMBLERS 1-0: It took longer than I thought, but the Gamblers finally get on the board just over 3:30 into the game when Matty "The Mailman" Marrazzo delivers pass to Dan "Robo Leg" Ammel in front all alone.

NOTE: It's been all fucking Gamblers for about 2.5 minutes midway through the first period. It's been a big game of keep away...and even when Dead Rive gets the puck they'd fuck it up and turn it over at their own blue line.

NOTE: 6:15 of the first, Marc "The Narc" Gattie sends Willy "Cherry Picker" Meyer in on a breakaway. Meyer tries a quick shot 5-holio on teh veteran Matty "The Buzzard" Crowson, but he's seen that one before from Meyer and shuts the door...energizing his bench.

DEAD RIVER 1-1: Ray "Sprocket" Sprague makes a nice play at his own blue line to chip the puck past a Gambler's defenseman to Kyle "Sherpa" Koetsier streaking up the far boards. Koetsier with a TON of speed gets some room and fires a twistted wrister from the far faceoff dot over Ryan Van Schoik's glove, ringing the rear post to tie the game. NASTY GOAL KYLE.

GAMBLERS 2-1: From the corner, Ryan "Patrice" Bergeron finds Meyer all alone in front. Meyer just taps the pass over the glove of Crowson

GAMBLERS 3-1: Thing 1 and Thing 2 worked some Dr Suese magic as Thing 2(Ryan "Goose" LaCroix entered the zone with the puck and felt the vibrations of his twin brother inside his inner ear. Thing 1 did a little "Savardian Spin" and dished the puck to Thing 1(Kyle "Topo" LaCroix) who made a great move on Crowson to get him out of the net and then fire the puck along the goal line with zero angle into the empty net.

END OF THE FIRST: Gamblers 3, Dead River 1. The Gamblers outshot Dead River 19-4, Matty Crowson made some huge saves...I hope he likes rubber.

GAMBLERS 4-1: Allison "The Hook" Malcolm in her first game back from off season shoulder surgery gets on the scoreboard. Malcolm FIRED a laser beam through a screen, beating Crowson low blocker side.

GAMBLERS 5-1: Thing 2 feathers a GORGEOUS pass to his brother, Thing 1, streaking into Dead River's end. Thing 1 with plenty of time fakes shot, drags the puck behind him on his forehand along the top of the crease and beats Crowson 5-Hole...I think.

GAMBLERS 6-1: Marrazzo throws one on net, Crowson makes a glove save, bobbles the save and it drops onto Ammel's stick who picks it out of mid air and 5-hole.

GAMBLERS 7-1: Meyer finds his best buddy with a gimpy leg, Danimal Ammel, on the back door. NO CHANCE WHATSOEVER for Crowson.

GAMBLERS 8-1: A Dead River defenseman plays a puck with his skates at his own blue line, didn't go so well. Thing 1 storms in, picks up the puck and goes in all alone. He freeze Crowson with a shoulder drop and pulls the puck hard to his backhand only to roof it over a sprawled Crowson...he roofed it on his back hand while off balance...pretty disgusting goal.

Yup, it went about as well as we had expected. Dead River didn"t have an answer for the Gamblers early. The Gamblers two solid lines racked up 8 goals early and then Dead River reeled in their team game and shut the door. I"d like to think that the Gamblers, being up by 7 goals, took their foot off the gas and had I not been there to witness, they were trying pretty hard to rack up the points late.
Matty "The Eagle" Crowson made some huge saves throughout the game en route to his 46 saves despite some questionable team defense in front of him.
These are two teams on the rise...just at severely different speeds. Dead River continues to improve, that was a VERY talented team they shut down in the third period last night, the same team that beat them up 14-1 last season. The Gamblers are Nasty...and getting better.
