Dead River @ Cardigan

Dead River had a rough week 1 against a drastically improved Tuck squad losing 8-2. They started strong in that game, keeping Tuck at bay and managing to get within one goal early in the second period, but they faltered halfway through the game, making significant mistakes and lost their legs.

Tuck was also locked in a tight battle with the reigning champion Whalers. They jumped out to a quick lead only to see themselves down 5-4 halfway through the third. They battled back, took the lead and added a pair of shorthanded goals in the last 2 minutes for a solid 8-5 win.

Tuck's offense will be too much to handle for the revamped Dead River squad...even with Matty "The Eagle" Crowson in net. Which leads me to Tuck's keeper, Mike Devine, the ex-Dartmouth College standout who will surely cause fits for Dead River.

Seeing Tuck on par with Cardigan, I'm going to call this another 8-2 loss for Dead River...or if you're a Tuckie, a solid 8-2 win.

Cardigan starts the season 2-0-0 with 10-3 thumping of Dead River

Cardigan flexed their muscles tonight with a solid 10-3 win, and their captain Ryan "Silky Smooth" Sinclair showed that he is still a dominant player in this league even in his 50s. Sinclair racked up 7, yes 7 fucking points in this one with a pair of goals and 5 assists. Mostly hooking up with his new BFF Owen "Carpe Diem" Carpino, Sinclair was on his game. Carpino had a nice night as well with 4 goals and 1 assist. The second game in a row he has had a quartet of goals.


This loss put the re-building Dead River team at 0-2-0 on the season. They played tough for the first 18 minutes being down 1-0, but then lost their legs and collapsed.

CDG - 1-0 - Two on one, shot trickles in.

NOTE - carpino dangles through 3 Dead River players, makes a great move on Crowson @ 5:23, Crosson glove save.

NOTE - Crowson makes great kick save @ 2:02 on a 2on1. Crowson is the difference.

NOTE - stops Carpino on a breakaway w/ 0;04 remaining

END OF THE FIRST: Cardigan 1, Dead River 0. Crowson(DR) 10 saves, Albertazzi(CDG) 12 saves.

CDG - 2-0 - Sinclair unassisted...ask him

NOTE - Albertazzi makes a superb save on a 2 on 1, sliding across the crease to stuff Golden on the backdoor.

CDG - 3-0 - Sinclair down the far boards, fires one right along the ice, inside the far post.

CDG - 4-0 - Sinclair with a partial breakaway, cuts across the crease on his backhand, sucking Crowson with him the entire way then slides the puck back through the crease to Carpino for the empty netter.

NOTE - Shots on net are 26-21 in favor of Cardigan, but the game has been dominated by Cardigan.

CDG - 5-0 - Sinclair dipsy-dos at the blue line around two Dead Riverians, cuts to the boards, cuts back to the high slot, freezes Crowson with a head fake and then slides the puck to Carpino crashing the net along the goal line. No angle, great goal and pass.

NOTE - 2:25 - Tazzy stops Sprague on a breakaway. Sprague went for the forehand to backhand deke, Tazzy had him dead to rites the whole time.

DR - 5-1 - Shot from the faceoff dot, Tazzy kicks it wide to the far boards but a streaking Keith "Large & InCharge" Lazarczyk slams it home under Tazzzzzzzzy.

NOTE - Crowson stones Ricky "The Humidifier" Hughes point blank from the slot

DR - 5-2 - 2on1 - Lazarczyk drops to Bayliss, cuts back on Hughes and beats Tazzy right along the ice 5-hole.

END OF THE FIRST: Cardigan 5, Dead River 2. Either Cardigan is getting tired or pulling off the gas late in the second, as turnovers & mistakes allowed Dead River quite a few chances late and two goals to boot.

CDG - 6-2 - Just 14 seconds in Gauthier jams home a rebound on top of the crease.

NOTE - 13:20 - Carpino can fly...literally, he may have wings.

NOTE - 12:34 - Hadley falls on his ass, almost taking out his defensive partner, leading to a 2 on 0. Crowson makes 2 big stops...but then...

CDG - 7-2 - Sinclair finds Carpino back door one timer along tbhe ice. A LONG backdoor pass

DR - 7-3 - Golden fights off a Cardiginian along the far boards, and feeds Lazarczyk at the top of the circle, about 15 feet from him. In a play that can only be described as something out of Mighty Ducks8, Lazarczyk kind of one-timed / shoveled the quick pass far side, just under the crossbar.

CDG - 8-3 - Carpino cutting across the high slot w/ Leclerc putting up a solid screen, fires back across the grain halfway up the net. That was SINCLAIR'S SIXTH POINT.

NOTE - Cardigan puts on a passing clinic in the 6th minute of the third period. Sinclair to Carpino to Leclerc back to Sinclair to Fitzgerald to Carpino to Leclair to Sinclair for a shot up and out of the rink

NOTE - Sink rings post at 7:27...weak!

NOTE - Crowson STUFFS Carpino yet again on the breakaway...his team didn't come back to help out...so...

CDG - 9-3 - Leclerc bangs home a Sincliar rebound.
